Wiper motor removal.
« on: March 01, 2008 - 06:55:11 PM »
The question is how?   :dunno:

I have a variable-speed motor. Removing the three nuts from the firewall area was easy, but how on God's green earth do I detach the wiper arms from the back of the motor??   :pullinghair: I can barely get a finger back there to feel there is a nut holding them on. I really can't believe I have to get a wrench back there. Any tips?

:clueless:  You take the vents off and your whole arm will go in there or at least my barracuda was that way.

Yes, take the cowl screen off and undo the clip that holds the wiper arm onto that little 3'' lever.  Use your fingernail or screwdriver to pick up the rounded end of the top strip of the clip and then push it off. This gives you a little room to put a wrench in and loosen the bolt on the back of the wiper.  You don't need to totally remove it, just give it a little wiggle room to clear the firewall.
Then post a picture on "what the heck is it?".

Thanks guys. I didn't consider the cowl vent. I was ready to get inside the car and cut a hole in the dash.   :stomp:

That would be a logical alternative if you do not want to remove the two vents from the upper cowl.
I'd use about a six inch hole saw

Also, if you just want to pop off the retaining clip you can slide the wipers on the windshield to get the crank in a better position. If they don't move, you may have to use the motor to do that then turn your key off when they're at their most accessible position

OK Guys,

Mission accomplished!!   :bananasmi  When I took off the cowl vent screen, I was afraid to put my hand inside. I think there were remnants of a dinosaur bone in there.   It was all pretty easy going.     Thanks again!!
