295/50's are on.... What do you guys think?
« on: March 02, 2008 - 09:32:56 PM »
This weekend, I mounted a pair of 295/50-15 BFGs on a pair of 10" (5.5" BS) Rallyes.  I put them on the car and rolled it out for some photo's.  This has a standard e-body rear under the car. Right now the tires just barely touch the leafs. I have and plan on installing a B-body rear with Dr. Diffs kit, so the wheels will go in 3/4" on each side with the use of a 1/4" spacer or so for leaf clearance and the car will sit about 1" - 1.5" lower in the back.  After I get the mods done, do you guys think the car will have a good stance or will it look too chunky?

Thanks for any opinions.....

patch looks good, they are a little short of a tire. if you're okay with not too much rake it'll fill up nice!

They look great, just worried about hitting the 1/4 until you move them in

Thanks for all the comments.....  As you can tell, this thing is a ways from going down the road, so hitting the quarters is not a problem.  I am going to get this situated out before putting in the driveline.....

Where can I get some good spacers at?  Also, I have a question about spacers.  The center of the axle helps center the wheel.  If I use a 1/4" to 3/8" spacer, the wheel will not be able to get up on the axle pilot.  Will this matter?

Goody is right....  The only gear I have right now is a set of 3.91's.   Will most likely be too much for that short of a tire.  I will just have to see how it all plays out....  I traded for the 3.91s when I thought I would be running 275/60s.

keisler has a speed analyzer that you put in tire size and rear gear.  :ylsuper:

at 3000 rpms you will be running 61 mph...

:iagree:  Am a BIG fan of the fat tires with lowered body look. I got my 1/4 spacers at PepBoys.

After looking at the car again AND looking at pictures of E-bodies with 275/60's (Especially Carlwalski's Challenger), I am thinking about switching gears here.....

I am thinking about getting a set of 275's and putting them on a 15x8 Rallyes.  The disadvantage is that they are just a little less wide, but there are many advantages:

1. Can use the stock E-body rear without modification (will not have to purchase Dr. Diff kit or install B-rear)
2. Can use stock OEM swaybar without any mods to mounting pads
3. No spacers required

The only question now is should I used a stock 15x8 with 4.5 BS or should I get a custom rallye with 5" BS.  This car has repo quarters on it so the lip is much wider than stock quarters.  I am thinking with the custom BS, I can then clear the lip without any trouble with 257's and adjust my ride height where ever I want it.  I have enough room now to use the 5" and it will still leave me greater than 1/4" clearance to my springs.

What do you guys think?

Am I thinking about this correctly.....

If I get a 15x8 Rallye with 4.5" BS and use a 275/60 BFG that has an advertised Section Width of 11" on a 8" rim, then the distance from the mounting flange in-ward toward the springs would be:

8" Rim / 2 = 4".  Since the BS is 4.5 then the flange is moved outward .5"

So, 11" Section Width / 2 = 5.5" (center of tire)

Move this out by the .5" will give you 6".   SO, if I wanted to run this tire/wheel combo, then I would need at least 6.25" of measured clearance from drum face to suspension.  Likewise, I would need 5"+ from the drum face to the quarter panel lip to clear (11-6= 5")

Is this right?

wow has 4+ years gone by quik just by looking at the photos..........  :scared:
