Hey Greg I sold Russ (KNOT0623) a used cowl and I think he is just using the lower part you may want to send him a P.M. to see what he has left.

Scott, you knew before I did.  My son was sick today, so I stayed home with him (did yardwork, so that I get the weekend to work on the car) and my first notice was your post.  And a nice surprise when I opened the box - thanks for the cam buttons and oil seal.  Everything looks great.  Thanks again my friend. At my company, there's always a dispatcher on-duty and I share it with two other guys, each of us taking one week out of three.  Thanks to the wonder of modern communications, we can do the job from home, but the smart money is to never start something you can't easily walk away from at a moment's notice, just in case of emergency.  I can still work on my car, but during my duty weeks, I concentrate on restoration projects - the little things. 

This week, I'm finishing up restoring the taillight housings.  As is my M.O., I didn't start till this afternoon (I had to go to the bus yard in the morning), so I only finished one today.  (My brother polished the other bezel two weeks ago while I was painting the engine bay two weeks ago.)

Finished the taillight and read marker light housing restoration.  I wanted to do the reverse light, but I can't get the *&#$%#@ rear valance off (freakin' screws  :swear: :stomp:) and I can't get the housing past the rear bumper, so I polished it up as best I could.  The housings look so good now, they make the bezels look bad.  Maybe because the bezels do look bad. :smilielol:

 I also attempted to remove a dent from one of the rear trim pieces.  It came out OK - far from show quality, but better than it looked with the dent.  Sorry, no photos.

I know some of you guys have been wondering when I was going to update.  I worked a lot week before last and decided I'd take last weekend off - especially coupled with Mother's Day.

I got the dreaded post card from Summit on Thursday - my pistons are still on back order and are predicted to ship on 6/11.   :pullinghair:  20 minutes later, my machine shop called to ask if I was still interested in the block they offered me, since they hadn't heard from me and didn't have any money and they had someone else interested in buying it.  I said "Heck, yeah, I want it!" and paid for the block and the work I've already had done right then.

Thursday evening, I spoke to Az-Nick and ordered some interior parts - four-speed hump, carpet, headliner and pad, sail panels, interior screw kit, underdash padding and firewall insulation.  Anybody who needs anything he sells, I can't say enough about Nick - he's great to work with.  And how about that new Challenger of his?  Can't wait to see that with a Hemi, Nick!!  :cheers:

Since I'm still waiting on the engine parts, I figured I'd spend today doing more restoration work.  I know the my primary objective is to get the car running, but I figure if I'm putting parts back on the car, better to put stuff on that's restored and ready to go, so I don't have to pull it apart later to re-do it.  So, since my next major project is re-installation of the dash, I worked on stripping all the rust and old paint off the brake and clutch pedals and the master cylinder mounting plate and re-painting those. 

I also did a quick job of re-sealing the windsheild to the cowl.  The top of the cowl has a couple of rusted areas that will need eventual replacement, but I can't do that now, so I figured I'd re-seal it to keep the water out, so that I can wash the car without getting the interior wet.  I used some black elastomeric latex sealant.  I like it for a temporary solution because it's easy to work with but won't set "hard", so it should be easy to remove when the time comes to re-do the cowl.  It ain't pretty, but it's hidden beneath the lower moulding, so I'm more concerned with it being functional.

Last, I thought I'd take the old dash harness out of it's box and see if it was salvageable.  As Goody and Moparal noted in another thread, it's not in the best shape, so after laying it out on the floor and inspecting the condition of the wires and some of the old splices, I think it's better to replace it.  In fact, even though it's a budget buster, I'll probably buy all new harnesses.  :money:

Greg, my harness wasn't in the best shape but with a little TLC it functions great.  Just take a few more pictures of where the wraps and stuff are and where the wires come out and unwrap the whole thing.  Use a Digital multimeter and check the wires one at a time.  Feel along them and replace sections as necessary.  Get a 10 dollar soldering iron and some solder along with some shrink wrap and fix them one at a time.  Pretty simple and cheap.  Mine was the wiper motor wires that caused some havoc. 

With a bit of elbow grease you can make it work.  I would bet that Harness' prices will go up though due to the rising Copper market, this has caused much grief for Me in my business, actually my customers.LOL

 :2cents:  I fyou think the wiring is iffy, you'd better follow 72's advice and at least check it out.  Last summer, I was driving my Pro Street and had a harness melted down under the dash.  The wire that melted down heated up and burned throught the mechanical oil pressure feed line and POOF Holy Smokes Batman, FIRE!!!    :22yikes:  Luckily, I somehow had the presence of mind to jump out of the car and disconnect the battery which prevented a bad situation from being a disaster.  The bad part was, I had just taken a deposit from someone for the car.  $1200 later, I replaced ALL of the wiring in the car and felt much better selling it to the next owner.

Tom, Scott, Gary, thanks for the advice.  Rest assured, there's NO WAY I'd put that harness back in without checking it.  I'm kinda 'afeared' of checking it, 'cause electricity and I generally aren't very good friends.  However, I also recall something someone else on this site said once on another thread - life begins at the edge of your comfort zone, so I may give it a shot.  I have the wiring diagrams and am reasonably confident that I can follow along, but I'm not so confident in troubleshooting.  And given the potential disaster inherent in getting it wrong, I may just spend the money and buy what I need.  But that's a decision for another day.

Today, I got that heater box I bought on e-bay two weeks ago ready for shipping to Slotts, and worked on cleaning up the front turn signals and headlight buckets.  Obviously, I'm going to need a new lens (left side).
