I have story about an iroc daytona....

My Babe Ruth baseball (ages 13-15) coach was named Carlos.  Carlos was as close to a real life Barney Fife as you could find. Needless to say, us teenage boys didn't give him a great deal of respect.  I wasn't old enough to understand that we should have been thankful for the time devoted to us. Apparently, neither were any of the others kid.  We all gave him a pretty hard way to go.

One season, Carlos had bought a brand new red Iroc Daytona.  He was obviously very proud and always wanted to talk about it.  As teenage boys, it was definately the only cool thing Carlos appeared to have going for himself.

One day during practice,  Carlos and the centerfielder got into some sort of disagreement over where the kid should have thrown the ball.  Well the next ball that came this kids way, the kid picked it up and instead of throwing it to were Carlos wanted, he turned the other direction and fired the ball way off the practice field.  The kid threw a perfect strike at that Daytona and hit it directly in the drivers door.  The ball definately left a sizeable dent.

Carlos was absolutely shocked and had no idea how to react or what to say.  I guess he knew he couldn't legally or physically kick the kids ass.  All of us kids just kind of chuckled to ourselves.  I don't know how Carlos was able to keep from going off, I know I probably couldn't have.  Poor Carlos drove his beloved Daytona with a dent in the door all season long.

Sorry, a wee off topics, but while we're talking these cars.....

What is better in terms of performance and reliability in these cars?  The V6 or the turbo 4?  :clueless:

How fast are these cars with either engine?

Thanks!

I have driven both and I was totally shocked at the power that the Iroc R/T(turbo 2.2) makes.Mine is a v6 and is plenty quick enough for an everyday driver.I was also told that if you look at the power to weight ratio of the turbo version,it comes up as one of the most powerful cars released by Mopar. With that comes the problems which have plagued that version---keeping the thing from cracking the head, destroying valves and breaking timing belts. The one I have was bought locally by a woman I know(I have every piece of paperwork from the day she ordered it to present)Her husband is a Chrysler tech and he maintaned it from day one and it drives like a new car at 156000 miles.I would love to find one of the blue R/Ts because they only made 8 in that blue, and supposedly the only one documented as having a sunroof and rear louvers was stolen in 2002.

Thanks for the info, clown!

Yeah, with gas getting so high a 4 cyl. or V6 looks entertaining.  :grinyes:
