1970 Top Banana R/T 440 U-code Convetible
« on: April 08, 2008 - 12:23:08 AM »
As I get older, I consider selling this project.  What can I reasonably  expect to get for this car that needs a complete restoration?  It is solid with the usual convertible rust problems.  It has the original numbers matching auto transmission,  date correct HP 440 (needing rebuild) and possibly being the original engine.  It has the correct date correct rebuilt carb and a lot of nos, repo and restored parts ready to install.  It  has the  original fender tag and VIN plate, but I was unable to find the broadcast sheet.  It is almost fully dis-assembled and partially on a rotisserie at present.  I have collected a lot of parts for this car of which only 129 convertibles were produced, and this is a factory AC convertible (30-40 ?). I have all of the AC parts too.  It came with vinyl insert mouldings (V5X), and I have two sets of these (hard to find) as well as the deluxe seat belts and brackets. It would come with a 318 AC parts car for the firewall sheet metal needed. I was totally committed to completing this car, but just don't know if I can finish it.  Thanks in advance for your thoughts and input!  :bananasmi

Sounds like a lot of the groundwork is done. Sure hope you reconsider selling it at the 9th hour. Sometimes it helps to take a breather from a project and come back refreshed with a renewed love and interest. Good luck as it surely is a rare beast and will be gorgeous when done.

Their was only 163 built in that configuration, would think twice about letting it go........... you know the old saying, "if it is out of sight, then it is out of mind"  You can't sell what you can't see.  Cover it up for now, and come back to it if at all possabile buddy :2thumbs:

I sent you a PM. I'm not sure what the value should be but I would love to chat with you about it. Of course that's only if your 100% sure you want it to go. I don't want you to free pressured. Thanks Gary

NICE full data tag there. I hope you dont sell it but if you are dead set on it there is not a better bunch of people to let it go to. Good luck either way.

I'm going to guess in the low 20's it is a rare car and has a lot of options.  It would be great if you could hold on to it and finish the car.

I turned down twice that over two years ago, and I have invested over half that in parts since then; so, that does not seem reasonable to me.    :bananasmi

I would say around 30k, the market is down and it looks like there is a lot of metal work required. All of the new parts help, but without them being installed on the car they don't help that much.
