There are a lot of things women carry that can be used to defend yourself.

I remember in the 70's the line was, "Take out your rat tail comb and poke em in the eye!"  :roflsmiley:

Sorry, just lightening the situation a little...  :misbehaving:

Yep, I am devising all kinds of weapons to have around the house now. my latest addition will be a sawed off axe handle with grip tape. Its gonna be like "last of the Mohikans" if anything happens again.  :misbehaving:

Funny thing is with the drive, we both drive over an hour South to work near D.C., so i think the next house will be further south and hopefully a historic neighborhood.  :burnout:

I grew up out in the country, and Karen grew up in Cork, Ireland. So we started out un-like city folk, but after years of living IN the city, we wanted our first house to be in the city so as to not strain the relationship with new surroundings AND living together. I can say for sure that it will be a single family house with a yard and garage next.  :bigshades:

We havent heard back from the Police about any leads, the detective said if the arrest seems related, they'll contact us.

That freakin stinks!

Way back in the 80's I was in looking for a police job. (was in the Air Force Military Police).

I lived in Pa. and decided to drive down to take the test in Baltimore. Before the test I drove around the city a little bit...then decided that Baltimore was a waste dump for the unholy and didn't take the test. Sorry, but to me it seemed like a craphole compared to where I came from. And I didn't come from any palace either!

Your GF did right by hitting the button for her car alarm. Another thing that might attract people is screaming FIRE! Believe it or not, yelling FIRE will attract more people than yelling HELP.
Knees and the shin area are a very good target areas, which can be hit even when the victim is lying on the ground. Kick!!!
It's best just to give up your stuff (car, purse, etc.). Your life/her life is more valuable than things that can be replaced.

I knew a guy once who lived in a horrible neighborhood. I asked him if he was ever afraid of the "neighbors". He said that they never gave him any trouble...what he did was right after he moved in he sat out on his front steps and ( IN FRONT OF EVERYONE) cleaned his shotgun and his glock. Nobody bothered him :)

I'd suggest another option is getting a dog that can handle these types of situations. Even the best of the scumbags that think they can take you down will back away from a dog that knows what he's doing.

When I was in the middle of buying my first house I met my wife. I had moved from a very bad neighborhood (they wouldn't even deliver pizza there) to a better neighborhood but not all that great either but better. When we got married my wife lived with me in my new house and I was always worried about her when she would come home alone etc... The neighborhood was gradually getting worse but still better than my old neighborhood. We eventually within a year of being there and being married for a year said it wasn't worth the risk, nice house bad area. (we had really made nice improvements to the house) I could have easily stayed there myself since I was used to worse but I was nervous for my wife. I know it may not be possible in your case but if you can I would seriously consider moving and cut my losses. Anything can happen anywhere but your chances for bad things go up in bad neighborhoods . The police in bad neighborhoods even treat normal citizens lousy because they get on the offensive a lot of the times (safer for them) I know because I had been hassled but them a few times and I wasn't doing anything. Glad it turned out okay for your girlfriend this time. Be careful and thing about getting out of there.

Just got back to town last night and just read this thread. Sorry that happened to your girlfriend Wally but I am glad she is ok. Have you had any dealings with your neighbors? It might be that they are sick and tired too, you all might get together and start some sort of neighborhood watch. After time and some your efforts will pay off in the crooks going somewhere else for easy pickings. I think the best advice is to get a conceal carry license and arm yourselves. I truly believe the only way to fight fire is with fire and some pieces of trash just have no value for anyones life. It might sounds harsh but I think you should both get licences, have weapons and pracice often with them so you both are comfortable. Hollow points make excellent stocking stuffers. I have never lived in a big city and have grown up with guns my whole life so my outlook might seem odd to a big city dweller. I never look for trouble and may never be put in the position but with God as my witness, if someone puts my family in harms way and I can get to my 92 AFS, well, you get the idea. Good luck and I hope they catch the dog droppings that mugged your girl.

Thanks again guys! We're doing pretty well after only a week. We're still waiting for finger prints on the Cell Phone. Luckily, we have a pretty good neighborhood association. They get the Mayor involved with our meetings and since the incident, we have had foot patrol and unmarked cars staged around the neighborhood. It was a wake up call, I have a Sickle by the bed now, and im shopping for a good heavy Baseball Bat!!  :misbehaving:

Wally,

It might not be a bad idea for you and Karen to consider carry permits, too.

A little late to the thread but I'm glad She's OK.  I was about 10 when my Grandmother was mugged in the front hall of her apt building.  I was with her and couldn't do anything about it.  I see it in my mind to this day. :swear:

Take care, and the BB bat/balls are good to have, I keep a couple bats/balls in various closets in the house.LOL  I hit 423 my junior year at UMASS LOWELL only D-2 but still fun and have a pretty good arm still. :drunk:

Well in maryland to get a handgun permit is like a act of god.My husband and i have concealed weapon permit in PA they allow you to carry a gun and dont need to have a special reason as long as your not a criminal you can get a permit. When we lived in Maryland it sucked not being able to carry to protect yourself but that is maryland for you a little state but a huge pain in the ass.
