What are your thoughts on sub frame connectors for improving handling?  I am building a 1973 Cuda that will not be a strip car but a driver.  It is going to be a mild 440, 4-speed car that I am not looking to make a HP monster out of, but I would like for it to handle well.  It will have a new leaf spring rear suspension, stock rear sway bar, new poly front suspension, stock front sway bar, tubular upper control arms, 0.960 torsion bars, and a 16:1 ratio manual steering (either firm feel or flaming river).

Will sub-frame connectors help the handling?  Will it help it enough for the $$ and labor involved to install?  I am looking at the contoured type from US CAR TOOL.

Thanks for your thoughts…..

They are an absolute must in my opinion.  Much nicer feel on the road and something Ma Mopar should have done from the factory.

I plan on having them installed on my 440-4 (.030) R/T SE. Mild cam, polygraphite suspension kit, original front sway bar, no rear sway bar. Total street and long distance use

You will notice the difference the first time you go over a speed bump or go into/out of your driveway (assuming you have a curb "hump" for the gutter. I would consider it essential for any unibody car that you wish to make handle better. The suspension is only as good as the platform you put it on. I'm sure HP2 will chime in with better info as to why.

i have the xv sub frame connectors as they form fit to the floor pan with a little grinding, they make a huge difference, its a different car!you have to pull the seats to do the welding,it gets hot but it totally tightens up the floor , if you stomp your foot on your floor noww it sounds kinda like a bell, when i put these on it has a solid thud , they help make the car a little safer in case of side impact, yes well worth it! :horse: :cooldancing:

Anything that stiffens up the body will help to transfer the torque better to the rear wheels.   :burnout:  Otherwise the body absorbs this extra twisting effect, and the rear wheels miss out. On a car doing a road course it allows better control of weight transfer.    :bananasmi

IMO they are a must, even for a car that only gets street miles.

Think of it this way; A uni-body car is like a shoe box with a lid. The lid keeps things from moving too far, but things can still move around a little bit within the confines of the lid as it twists and lifts. If you tape the lid down, similar to adding subframe connectors, the twist and distortion becomes greatly diminished and rigidity is greatly improved. Rigidity is necessary to allow the suspension to properly function at suspending the car. If the car is flexing, you turn the whole body into a variable of the suspension that you cannot control.

If you want to see the results they provide, before you put them in put a floor jack under one of the front control arms, and crank up that corner. Then open and try to close the door. It ain't easy if it even closes at all. After the sub frame connectors are in, try it again and observe the difference.

In terms of strength, even the bolt in, tube style that don't attach to the board will yield dramatic improvements, especially if you weld the ends. The next step up are the contoured weld in units, then through the floor weld in.

For a street car you will immediately notice a reduction in the squeaks and rattles of normal driving. Turn in and cornering becomes more stable, and if you ever do launch away from a stop light, it is straighter and more predictable.

DO IT!!

I've been wanting to buy a set for my cuda too.  Who makes the best fitting subframe connectors?  I do not want to cut my floor pans, or have to cut the connectors to get them to fit correctly.  I put a set of weld in competition engineering subframe connectors in my 67 Camaro and they made a huge difference in the way the car handles.
