    Hi guys..

    Do some of you guys have any experience with a transmission shifter cabel. I think that I maybe will try it instead of the rod system.
    I have been looking for a B&M 6.ft shifter cabel.

    Let me hear your experience   :thumbsup:

    They are a great item, does not have to be just B&M as other companies make these cables as well.  Used a lot in Marine applications.  Only down fall is they do not like too much heat and will burn then seize or split or even break from becoming brittle.  Just cover with some type of heat shield where ever neccersary. :2thumbs:

    I would stay with the rod system , on the Mopars the cable comes in from front so they have always had problem melting cables , I have seen them last less than 1 hour

    I think at the cabel should go from the shifter through the shifter rod hole and down to the shifter arm. Will there be a lot of heat there ?

    What is the shifter................. If it is a factory shifter you will not get enough flex from the cable to line up right and it would be a short cable wich is harder to flex.  And if i am thinking correctly it will have to come in from the other end for it to work anyway.  I think the shifter travels opposite to the gearbox linkage. :clueless: :1zhelp: CP

    I may have that record beat! But if you do go the cable route, I covered mine with high temp heater hose and later used some heat shield tubing when the hose was damaged to cover the cable and the cable was fine. The cable has to loop from the shifter forward and back to the trans, B+M doesn't make a 5 foot cable and the 6 foot is nice and long where it likes to interfere with the exhaust, or the starter or .....

    I agree with CP though, if you can, stay with the mechanical linkage.

I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

    Stick with the factory style set up, it's made better and works better. Steel rods won't melt. Every Chev and Mustang owner has a B&M or Hurst-Matic why be like them? The slap stik is Mopar and Mopar only and from I've heard Hurst copied the shifter design and set up off the Slap-Stik to make their shifters. I love my slap stik, it's a detent shifter, no chance of missing a gear and the shifts are instant and feel firm (unlike cables).

    Just my useless 2c. ;D

    My cable works fine.  Covered it with heater hose and spark plug boot sleeve.

    I went through a few of these cables before i finally tried routing through the tranny tunnel and out the passenger side of the tranny. Looped it around the bell housing and into the front of the valve body. This kept the cable contained between the headers and away from heat.
