70 Cuda fender tag on Ebay
« on: April 11, 2008 - 01:20:25 PM »
This guy is selling a Cuda fender tag on Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FENDER-TAG-1970-426-HEMI-CUDA-OEM-PLYMOUTH-DODGE-MOPAR_W0QQitemZ110241857500QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item110241857500

"This fender tag came from a cuda body that was on a crush pile at a local salvage yard in 1980. The body was almost completly stripped of everything that could be unbolted, and was crushed shortly thereafter. I have no other parts for this car. Another ebay member (korkyskuda( 109)) sold a 70 hemi cuda fender tag on March 2nd 2008 for $860, with that in mind I have a reserve of $800 on this one."

$800 for a fender tag. Who would pay $800 for a collectors item. Nobody! Thats why I have a feeling it will be put on another car :villagers:

Heres how the messages between me and the seller went.

Me: "You do know its illegal to sell tags of cars such as vin and fender tags. Who would pay $500 for a collectors item?"

Him: "That is the same question I am asking myself. But I think the same thing about some high dollar art works or them shiny rocks they call diamonds. Maybe they just want something to show off, or maybe they think it will go up in value some more. I just know I dont want it that bad so it is for sale. "

Me: "Can I be honest with you? I deal with Mopar fender and vin tag rebodying stuff. When I see Mopar vin and fender tags on Ebay, I add them to my registry.  I have a feeling somebody will use the tag to put on their car. Thats illegal. Would you mind telling me the full vin number on the tag? I'd like to add it to my registry. Cody"

And I'm sure that's the same reason he blocked it. He's selling it knowing it'll be a rebody. If he cared he would share/show the VIN. Right ???

Will the winners Ebay ID be displayed ? Maybe we can inquire once it's over to get their intentions. Good/bad idea ? I'm sure they'll dodge the question but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Well, a friend of mine on dodgecharger.com made a database for people to post lost and found ads for Mopar engines, trannys and broadcast sheets. He also added a "suspicious auctions" section and he gave me full rights to post in it. I've added over 100 vin numbers from people selling tags (fender and vin) on Ebay. I added this auction for the Cuda fender tag and I also included the sellers id, item number and I will add the buyers id. Best I can do

Here was my reply from him.  I didn't save what  I wrote him (sorry)

"So if you sell a gun to someone and they kill with the gun you sold them are you a murderer??
This is a legal sale of a part of a car, if someone uses it for illegal purposes that is unfortunate and not my fault as I have no control over other people and what they do with there stuff.
Regards, Mark"

I can understand why the VIN tags bring big bucks.  But these fender tags are being repoduced for $75, why bother paying for this?

If you scroll down the page on ebay you can report an item but when you do that it will ask about the violation which is simple enough but it than ask the item number and when you put in the number it tells you its not a valid auction number and without a valid number you cannnot report the item. I have tried several times and double checked my number and it can't be done.

Well....

Buying & / or selling fender tags is not illegal, unlike VIN tags they are considered collectibles.

There are only two states where it is illegal to buy or sell fender tags, Michigan & Oklahoma.

I knbow im probably gonna get flamed for this, but

Who the **** cares?
If someone wants to buy this tag and screw it to their cuda clone (or any other car), what is wrong with that?
And by using the question and answer section on that auction to flame that member you are abusing that feature, and (as it says in ebays Ts and Cs) it could be grounds to disable your ebay account.

:clueless: i feel that more effort should go to the educational part of how to inspect a car before buying! an investment should be done with knowledge and care, knowing how to identify the car being sold as what it really is.do research on the model you want to buy, check suspension and parts to be correct, check numbers on body areas.just because some scumbag is trying to sell a car and misrepresents, dosent make him 100% at fault!do the homework,or find an expert to help you make a wise purchase.
