I agree shakers are quite a pain to work with & relatively restrictive to air flow  as well

why not just bump the starter 'if the carb catches fire' and suck the flames in. Unless you have a gnarly backfire with a nice oily filter 

yet to backfire through my engine 

backup would be an extinguisher, dont even need to pop the hood for that one

Come to think of it , back in the 70's when I ran my Super Stocker I just laid the shaker right down on the carb.
It did fit tight to the hood ,probably because of the taller intake and  big spacer.......
I'll see if I can find an old photo of the engine compartment in my archives...

I have a buddy who has an original Sassy grass 70 340 4 speed Convertable Cuda, very rare to say the least in that color.   It was a rally hood car, in the 70s he traded a guy his rally hood for a complete shaker set up as the guy hated messing with it.   He still has the shaker set up on his vert.

I don't have carb fires either. I'm just saying that a shaker scoop would be a pain in the asx if I had to take off 7 bolts and 2 wingnuts everytime I want to take my air cleaner off.    How often do you take yours off?  I take mine off all the time, and it's an easy, 1 wing nut.  If I get a shaker it will be like the one above with a nice front facing fuel injection setup underneath it.

Now, I WOULD have a shaker setup if I can trade a Rallye hood for it. Any Takers?

Personally, I think that the bulge hood on the Challenger is one of the sexiest hoods ever made. Never did like the snorkle type hood on the TA's. That is one of the reasons that even though I am a diehard challenger fan I would take an AAR over a TA when getting into that realm of car.

  That was original a '70 383 4spd car I used to street race before I jumped into SuperStocker back in '75.
Was Ralley Red with black top, and changing the sheet metal to a '71 w/ a shaker (which I bought all the metal and grille brand new back then) I painted it B-1 Blue to hide all the acid dipping work on everything from the doors foward.
Ran it with the 340 in SS/JA...

My friend still has it as a SuperStocker but hasn't raced it since I drove for him back in '88. I was racing that car and my '74 Duster Stocker together...

Today it's almost common to see guys running two cars / different eliminators at the same race..
 
I would love to get it back and turn it into a Pro Streeter with a 416 stroker engine with a stick..
