well, i had the ballast resistor unplugged but no the ECU....... the wires definitely got HOT !!  :bricks1:

but would a damaged ECU cause these running conditions?  :clueless:

Think you would have melted a lot of insulation before enough heat was built up in the wires to damage to ECU...

The only place that would probably be likely would be the ECU because of the transistors.

Even then, though, I think this line of reasoning is a long shot.  :dunno:

Transistors aren't fond of heat. Notice the heat sink on the biggie on your ignition module. I don't think it's the ignition module though. That would either be good or bad, not a half-way good type of thing. The coil is another story. I had one half alive. UGH!! This could be as easy as a loose spark plug wire.   :pullinghair:

Just wondering if there is something else going on. if you can keep it running long enough with the hood up/air cleaner off, shoot some carb cleaner or brake cleaner down the carb and see if the idle smoothes out, wondering if you induced a vacuum leak somehow (PCV valve/hose something)

Mike, it isnt the fuel filter  :grinno:

Maybe i should post this in "what is it?"

Ok, so we're going to dinner soon, so i will run back through the wiring tomorrow morning. If there is no problem there, then i will mess with the carb. Im only assuming its wiring since thats all i changed. we will see.

SOLVED!  :2thumbs:

I reconnected all of my ballast resistor wires with new wiring and regular flat connectors, so dont laugh when you see that at a show.... but anyway, the only difference in configuration was: the junk yard connector had the blue with yellow tracer going all the way to the dk blue side of the resistor ,previously i had that intrercept earlier in the dk blue wire.

So, i am back where i started, i need to connect the choke wire (i connected w/o this time for problem solving)

This time, im gonna just start with only that wire and leave all else alone.  :working:

I wanna cruise, but at the same time, im a perfectionist. so, i really want to get new headers and repaint the engine bay before it sees much daylight..... and some other things, like rewrapping the harness, put my new Made In USA plate on to replace the original faded one, repaint all my cadmium parts, quieter mufflers, and some other things...

 :woohoo:

It's summer time, leave the choke alone for a while and go cruise. You will have all winter to post a 15 page question essay on how to hook up an electric choke :roflsmiley:

Funny thing is, no matter what time of year, she always needs help running for the first 15mins....

 :dunno:

Otherwise, its time to ride!  :burnout:
