Three holes in the top of my cowl on both side? Whats this?
« on: April 16, 2008 - 10:57:41 PM »
The holes (3) on each side are on top of my cowl.  In the same location on each side.   Was this factory or has someone drilled these three holes on each side (on the top) of the cowl?  Look at pics

There is an answer to that question on here somewhere, because I had the same thing on my cuda and I can't remember the answer but they are factory. I'll see if I can find it.

Found the other thread and I was just kidding we never came up with an answer, just discovered that other cars have them as well.

Yep, my 70 R/T SE has them too.  I couldn't see any purpose for them.  They look to be punched out from the inside.

My 70 R/T also has/had them.  I just fill out the hole with a little welding.

I take it that there isn't supposed to be any holes in the window channel, correct?  If that's the case then I need to fill in a few near the center of the channel.

I have heard that the 3 holes on each side of the cowl are for body alignment, to use with a tram gauge to check alignment after an accident.  Also, the perforated dimples are for the windshield spacers, to help hold the rubber spacers in place so they don't move while the glue sets up holding the windshield in place.

I posed this same question on moparts and the answer given to me was the same.  They were used to keep the rubber spacers in place that helped keep the windshield in alignment.   This seemed like a prudent answer to me.

The holes are a different thing from the bumps.  They're close, but if you don't see them, they were probably filled in at some point.
