Victor 340 Intake
« on: April 17, 2008 - 02:35:02 PM »
I just purchased a victor 340 intake for my 'Cuda.  I would like to know what I need to do to make it work so that my ralley hood will close with this intake.  Here is a current picture of my setup with the LD4B. What type of drop base air cleaner do I need, or will I need one?  Also, what do I need to do about the throttle cable?

Don't know how tall the LD4B is, but the edelbrock site shows the victor 340 as being about 5.5" tall from the base of the manifold to the top of the carb flange. You would have to measure yours and compare. K+N makes a 1.5" drop base air cleaner that should help with hood clearance.

I agree with the K&N drop-base air-filter. That was my ticket.

Used the k+n drop base on my performer rpm with a flat hood and it cleared (barely)

An easy way is to remove the top of the air filter and the filter itself, pinch some of the kids play dough, put a lump on the lower air filter lid and carefully shut the hood. The play dough will squash down and the distance is then measured, take that distance away from the height of the air filter plus an extra inch for safety and that is how much you will have to drop the base of the air cleaner.   :2thumbs:

I plan to keep that intake for my 69 dodge truck.  I put the intake on today and almost got finished with it.  I need to buy a pipe nipple for my heater hose, and a longer piece of hose for the vacuum for my power brakes.  I also need to change the oil because some coolant got into the lifter valley.  Hopefully I'll have it running again tomorrow afternoon.  I'll get some pictures too.  What amazed me was that the clearance was exactly the same with this intake as the previous one.

Here is what it looks like now.  I used an adapter from jegs for my throttle cable and it works perfectly.  I did not have to use the k&n drop base air cleaner.  I had enough clearance.  After driving the car today, it acts completely different.  It isn't as loud, it has gained some driveability, but lost some low end torque.  When it gets to 3500 rpm it just takes off a screams down the road. The cam's powerband is 3,000-6,500 so its a perfect combo.
