Disc Brake Help!!!
« on: April 17, 2008 - 05:30:51 PM »
I have a 73 Challenger W /front disc. On this car, the calipers are mounted forward to the wheel.
On my   74 Challenger W /front disc, The calipers are mounted to the rear of the wheel.
The 74 had no brakes ( Calipers, pads or lines) in it when I bought the car. I bought calipers, and I can't get the flex line to fit.  :banghead:

Is there two brake set ups, or is one wrong?????
Thanks Pete

the calipers should be forward to the wheel. the 74 you might have to swap the spindles

I brought the calipers back to the parts store and told them they were wrong. The numbers checked, but I said then they were boxed wrong.  Now I have to get them back...
but at least we figured it out. :clapping:
Thanks Again.....

They will work either way. However, you have the hard lines to match, the correct caliper hose inlet location, the bleeder valves on top of the caliper, and check for sway bar interference.

I agree , there are 2-3 different hose mounts types depending on the caliper but as long as the correct hose is used they will work either way

Is there any advantage to having them one way or another?

front may be marginally better as it pushes against the stiffer lower control arm , other than that it is simple physics of clamping a rotating disc , it can be done anywhere around the circle
