Wiper Woes continued....
« on: April 19, 2008 - 08:46:57 PM »
Now that I got a nice new working switch I can get wiper action... the problem is that it is intermittent wiper action.  I checked with a multimeter and I am only getting about 10.5v through the pink power wire in the back.  I traced that wire as far back as I could go, but I didn't find where it goes.  Does it go to the fuse box?  If so, would it be possible to completely replace the wire with a new one?  Anybody done that?

Not sure where it goes but here is a diagram for you to use.

Thanks, got that one and another color one hanging on my wall in the garage.  I used it to rewire the wires to outside the firewall, but I couldn't find where the big pink power wire goes to.  BTW, if you have the color one that is being sold by some places, the brown wire that goes through the firewall is the brown wire with the black stripe, the solid brown wire is to the wiper pump.

pink at the switch traces back to the accy feed at the fuse block
so it ether is a low battery or resistance in the bulkhead plug feeding power into the car

Check the connections at the base of the steering column too while your at it.

Cleaned that up.  It had what can only be described as "chunks of melted plastic" causing interference.  Once I cleaned that up I no longer had the problem where if I engaged my blinkers the radio would cut out for a 1/10 of a second.  Now that I have the wiper switch I get that same phenom when I turn on the wipers.  Ah, it was nice while it lasted (about a week).  I'm starting to think a rewire is probably going to be in my near future.

Sounds like there are some hidden issues in the harness.  When I bought my car I pulled the harness out and unwrapped it, seperated all the melted together wires and fixed as necessary.  The wiper had caused most of the melting. If you don't have A/C it doesn't take long to get it out. :2cents:

I found with my Challenger that the switch wasn't grounded ( earthed ) very well, wouldn't park the wipers when turned off.

:iagree:

It happened to me when I rewired my car......didn't have the switch grounded and couldn't figure out why they wouldn't work.... :banghead:

Funny thing happened on the way to work.  I turned the ignition on this morning and even though the wipers were in the off position they turned on.  I moved the switched till they got as low as possible and turned them back off.  When I reved the engine to pull out of the drive way, they parked themselves and a  puff of smoke came out from the top speaker hole.  :22yikes:  I got out to take a look and nothing was melted or even hot, and the switch was still working, but I unplugged it anyway.   :dunno:  To bad since it was drizzling all the way in to work this morning.
