4 speed shifter question...pics too.
« on: April 20, 2008 - 10:19:06 PM »
Here are some pics of my new 833 trans. I was wondering if the shifter is the right one? It is going into a 71 challenger with a console. I have seen many others that are just a straight piece of metal whereas mine has this bend in it. I was told it came out of a 71 Cuda, but I am not sure. Is the bend in it to avoid hitting the console? Any help would be appreciated.

I had a friend that had one with the bend much like yours and when I drove it I had trouble hitting second and fourth gears because my elbow would hit the seat.

I haven't had the car for quite some time now, but as I remember when I purchased a new shifter for my car I got one that had an 8 inch handle because it was much shorter and straight.  Never had a problem hitting my elbow on the seat and I truly enjoyed the short throw.

:iagree:  I do believe that is a B Body shifter, but definitely not E Body.  Here is a pic of the correct one.  Plenty of them on Ebay.  Just make sure you get the push in or bolt in type shifter, depending on which shifter mechanism you have.

Thanks about the model collection. I have about 100 unfinished and 100 done. Of course i have like 4 challenger and 2 cuda ones that need to be built yet.  Thanks for the info on the shifter too guys. I just went on ebay and scored a push in style handle. So as soon as I get it, I will be listing the B body handle on there....any offers?

I bought mine new from Brewers, cannot remember the price but it was a good price and not chipped or worn. Some of the ebag prices have gone into fairy land and they are not all originals either.   :money:
