58 Dodge Royal sitting to long
« on: April 21, 2008 - 12:59:34 AM »
Here are a couple of pictures of my late father's 1958 Dodge Royal sitting since the 60's. It is still on the family farm in Nebraska and I think was originally a 318 poly block engine with a automatic. My father drove the car hard till he blew it up as he always had to know what the top end of his cars were. This one had a strange speedometer which kind of filled up straight across the speedometer face changing color the faster your speed was indicating the speed you were going. As you can see the years have let a tree grow up right through the engine compartment as we pulled the engine back in the 60's with intentions of putting a different engine back in the Dodge Royal but it never happened. I'm going to check the car out this summer and see how bad it is and what it will take to get rid of the trees to move the car. It was a nice car being a black 2 door hardtop and was a great ride in it's day for sure. When it was parked there were no trees anywhere around it. I thought this was a 1957 but it might be a 1958 model.

That second picture is a classic.

I love the mean look of the grill. Like teeth sticking out at you. Are you sure this isn't a '58?

Those are cool looking cars when shined up nice.  If there are too many parts missing, that thing could make an amazing Pro Touring type car.

Post pics of getting it out.  I removed a 38 Plymouth convertible that was the same way in VA.  I had more trees involved.  I built a 2X4 cage around the car to protect it and then cut the trees in small pieces until I could raise the car and cut the trees level with the ground.  It was a bear to do.

Mike you maybe right that it might be a 58 as I was not sure and I live 600 miles from where the car is so I can't look at it or the title.

Good luck with getting it out.  That would be a cool car to have restored.   :2thumbs:

Why is it that if a car sits for a while a tree decides to grow through it? Just as well the earlier models had thicker panels.      :dunno:

If the hood had been left on it the tree wouldn't have grown there.  It would have been dark under the hood and sapplings don't like dark.

Hope the car is OK, I will like to see pics of the trees removal.

I have a lot of my cars that i havent worked on in a while, but i dont think i could leave any of them long enough for a tree to grow through..lol
