"Low Fuel" light-- How's it work?
« on: April 21, 2008 - 09:36:38 PM »
The "low fuel" light on the overhead console is on continually and I'm wondering how exactly it works.  Is there a relay somewhere?  The wiring diagram just shows a blue wire (and a yellow wire on a single plug) going "to instrument panel wiring" but the main dash wiring diagram doesn't show those wires coming in.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, P-Crazy. I looked a little harder and found the accessory wiring diagram and the relay on it.  Now I have to crawl under the dash and start snooping around.
Raptor- I'll let you know what I find.  If you're in Dublin, you're only minutes away.

The relay is on the far right hand side of the dash next to the glovebox, it has a IVR in it for the fuel gauge.

Raptor- The car's in Livermore, but all the work gets done on a Pleasanton driveway. See you at Ohlone in June?
Thanks again, PlumCrazy.  First chance I get, I'll look into it.

Yeah I'll be at ohlone. I'm not sure if I'll bring the car though. Its still a little ruff around the edges.

Not yet. I met a guy by the name of Dan at the Goodguys car show working an insurance booth next to our amsoil booth. Do you know him. He was nice and helpful about it.

I might, not sure though, as I just joined the club last summer when I moved down here. So names and faces are still a little fuzzy.

We got it fixed--sorta.  Took the lightbulb out of the ceiling console.  I've seen the little lenses from the console cracked from the heat and didn't want that to happen.
Couldn't find the relay.  An earlier post said it was by the glove box, but I didn't see it.  I'm thinking it's up by the lights and wiper switches, but if I found it, I don't know what exactly I could do with it. We'll be in project area (probably) at Ohlone.  See you there.

on a 70 it should be to the right of the glovebox next to or near the key in/door ajar buzzer unless someone moved it and the wiring. Would be nice to come up with a solid state solution for the low fuel "relay" if you open it up, it's two bi-metallic springs with heating elements and not much else

I'll look again.  All I saw was the buzzer and the crossover box for the 3-speaker dash.  The wiring is original, so it should be there.  Thanks, PlumCrazy and ntstlgl, for the info.
