Gasoline overflowing??????????
« on: April 22, 2008 - 07:07:52 PM »
Last summer I was feeding the girl at the local gas station when I noticed a puddle forming underneath.  When I fill her up, and park on the slight hill that is my driveway, facing down hill, I notice a gasoline smell, as well as a small drip underneath.  This eventually goes away after a day or so.  Originally, I thought the car might have an ECS gas tank with the vents on the top four corners, but I was underneath it the other day feeling around, and did not feel any.  First question is, where could this be coming from?  Also the car does not have trunk vent line in it.  The hole is there in the trunk floor, but nothing is there.  Was a trunk vent line for ECS cars, or did they all have it, and if they did, how does it all hook up?  I don't like the fact that it is leaking gas, both from an safety/environmental stand point as well as a fiancial one.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

it is a 70.  That is the vent I was talking about.  How does it work, and does it just shoot excess fuel out onto the ground or what?

I don't have any other pics at the moment. But could get some this weekend if you need. There is a small nipple on the gas tank. And the rubber hose hanging down goes to one on the filler neck. Therefore any gas that expands goes right back into the tank. Hope this helps!

I still have my old vent tube and plate if your intrested. A little crusty but very functional. You would just need to add new hoses. I only replaced it cause we redid the entire trunk.

Sounds like exactly what I have.  If you could post more pics that would be great.  I will probably get a new one as I am detailing my trunk as well.  Thank you for the offer for yours.  I hope this gets rid of the problem, if not, closer inspection will be required.  I knew I was missing this piece.

That is where I was going to get it from as well.  Where do I get the tool for those clamps?

I'm sure the factory used a tool to attach the clamps but I think for our purpose they are already crimped so you put the clamp over the metal, slip the rubber hose on & then work the clamp into place...that's what I have done with my originals anyway.

So patience is the only tool.....  Thank god, I figured the kit was $50 dollars so the special tool had to be at least $100........

I have an original '70 and the plate only has one hole for the vent tube to go down into the frame for venting.  What are the saying the rubber hose is to attatch to? If anything, it should be outsude of the trunk.

You are exactly correct. I had a brain lapse (probly from the paint fumes when we redid the trunk! ) The rubber hose goes to the filler neck/the tube goes to the frame rail.  :working: That was way back in January, this was the first day it was warm enough to lay underneath. Poor excuse but the only one I got. (CRS disease!)

Sorry it took awhile..........
