I personally have never had it happen..   :grinno: And I'm notorious for topping off the tank!   :grinyes:

YES, if the gas expands when heated, it will flow into the frame rail and exit out of the frame rails. I only top mine off when I am getting right back on the highway, that way only air is getting sucked in.    It all changed in 1971 when the rest of the states had to worry about spillage and hydrocarbons spilling onto the ground. All the vapor canisters, and expansion tanks were then installed and routed up to the carbs to burn.

what is that bracket under the vent line that the two bolts are holding?  My 70 chally vert is missing those brackets on both sides of the car.

I think he's referring to the shipping bracket in the lower right of this picture, they were suppose to be removed by the dealer before delivery I think......I have seen reproductions being offered for sale.

Every car I had had the brackets there. They were used to tie the car to the transport. If yours are missing, someone took them.

I thought that the tow bars were supposed to be removed during dealer prep but almost never were. I dont know if that is good information or not. My 71 still has them though  :dunno:
