    Well i hope thats a good thing, just saying anytime the government in general gets into something even if it was legal , soon enough they will pass an ordinance to foil it!
    Got lucky here a year or two ago, wanted a no commercial vehicle in the drive way law passed in a friggen blue collar town, the rich folks on the hill don't want to see our vans & pick ups, yet they all drive big fat suv's! Luckily it was voted down.
    It's getting nuts, I do a/c work, now they not only worry about noise, but in some towns you have to plant bushes so your neighbor can't SEE the unit, just crazy!  :blah: Rich.

    Seems to me that there is a market for some silent compressors and grinding tools.

    Check with the tool companies, pretty sure there are mufflers you can attach to the exhaust outlet on air tools to quiet them down some (look like a long sleeve that attaches to the exhaust).  If you can't find any, you would be surprised how much quieter a die grinder or air drill is when you tie a sock around the outlet, or you can try putting steel wool in the outlet too. I've used both.

I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

    Great idea Eric. I'll also investigate about the tools.
    If anyone else is quieting their air tools, I'd like to hear about it. What their results are like.

    Where I live, as long as you quiet down by 10:00pm, your golden.  When playing the electric guitar, I always watch the clock and shut down at 10.  Really don't want my neighbors b!tchin'

    Topcat, I live in Socal and as far as I know, you can be as loud as you wan't until 10:00pm.  We used to have parties with live rock bands that played LOUD, neighbors would complain but the cops let it go on until 10:00 then they would drop the hammer.  Sounds like this neighbor of yours has got a fat long stick up her arse.  I would tell her you'll be done in a couple of months so DEAL WITH IT, you have gone above and beyond in my opinion, if she wants it done any faster ask if she'll flip the bill to have a shop finish it up.

    Ive been running open headers for 3 weeks..... I dont care what they think............. I dont do it late anyway....  :2cents:

    my neighbors are dirtballs and I cant wait to move out of my neighborhood............. they jumped my fence onetime and re - arranged my shovels....among other things..... they know not to even look at me funny now..... not trying to sound tough but they crossed the line.... so I fire up the big bad dodge all the time on open headers........................  :22yikes:

    I quit working on the car no matter what at 5pm to respect their dinner time and slow down for the evening. You'd think that she could perceive that I am making some leway towards her time with her family.

    Some people dont want to be reasonable. They just want to win. From what I read on the regulations you posted, you seem to be ok until 10PM. Just stop your tool every five minutes, and there is nothing they can do about it. I think you've been doing an admirable job, but they need to respect your rights too. Sometimes people will just keep walking all over you as long as you let them. If they want to call the cops, let them. When the cops come, show them what you are doing, and tell them all of the things that you have been doing to please the neighbors. Once they see your car they'll think its cool, and will just ignore the neighbors the next time they call.

    When I run my compressor (it’s in a box behind the garage) I turn the stereo up real loud that way they hear the music not my tools.  :cooldancing:
     And I stop around 7:00 pm so all is cool at night.  :bigshades:


    Good luck with that woman you could tell them or show her it could be a lot louder. Do you know any Harley Davidson owner …  :scared:

    I do most things in my neighborhood association either outside behind my gate or in my Garage with quiet tools.
    For stripping paint I use chlorine based strippers and razor blades. For cutting metal I use the Plazma cutter and for building up primer and bondo (not that I have any bondo on any of my cars of course) I use course sandpaper and longboards to get the right eveness.  I don't own a DA or air powered drill.
    I do have to grind rarely but I use acid to take off most rust first and I don't grind for very long.
    I don't weld unless there is bright sunlight to hide most of the flash, same with the plazma cutter.
    My drill, sander, orbital, grinder ect are all electric.
    Sure I take forever to get the metal right but shorter then sending it to the body shop for two years and it's my hobby so...

    If they are as uppity as you say, they will take whatever consideration you give them and still want more. Snobs tend to love pressing their thumb down on other people. I would tell them that 3 days a week you will be civil but 2 days a week and Saturday will be your days to try and finish your car. If she doesnt like that then tell her its 6 days a week till supper time  :working:

    I guess I've been fortunate over the years . I used to do a ton of stuff at home. But sometimes you just end up with a prissy nieghbor with a bug up thier a$$. Stay within your local laws, and do what you gottta do. Around here we call those types Nancy Northshores (a ladida nieghborhood around here). Never got there hands dirty ever!

    I mentioned to her when she complained the first time, I could just go all out and finish it quick or let this drag out. She never gave me a decision on what way she wanted. She also put on a pouty face like "poor me" when she came over. Oh and a bag of Lemons she gave me.

    As soon as she left, I was flamed and threw the whole bag at the fence. I felt threatened I would loose working on my car then.
    We have a lemon tree. But it was her effort then to try to negotiate with me.

    Or you could do what they did in the Sopranos and blast Frank Sinatra till their ears bleed. Maybe it doesn't have to be Sinatra but something equally as irritating.
