There are three more on there right now also, they come up if you search for "vin tag".

Wait, am I to understand that that someone cannot sell a dashpad with a VIN attached to it, but yet it is illegal to remove the tag from a dashpad??

What gives on this??

How is someone to sell a used dashpad to be used for a core??

Cut the VIN tag in two, then sell the pad.

Tin snips work great.

But I thought that it was ILLEGAL to remove the VIN tag for any reason?? I am just trying to get this clear in my feeble lil brain!

It is.

But, as a seller, destroying the tag before selling the pad at least leaves the seller in the clear.

Anything beyond that as a buyer, check your state laws. Some states allow changing it if the change is "witnessed" by a LEO. In some case the LEO will actually switch them for you.

Also, if the same VIN is going back on the same car, most LEOs will not care. All it takes is ONE that does to cause problems for you though. So, again, check your state laws BEFORE moving a tag.

Some day I would like to shake your hand for your efforts in keeping these parasites from helping others to produce fraudulent cars. Your a good man.

starting to catch it now....Thanx Barry!

Fraudulent cars are INDEED a menace to our hobby and lifestyle, but also, an informed public is key to stopping this type of illegal activity! As laws vary from state to state each person needs to know what the laws in their respective state says about what is going down....

Most state laws are at least based on the federal laws. I am sure that the federal laws outweigh the state laws, so if you only read on set, start with the federal laws.

If anyone knows where to find the sate laws for any stae not shown, please let me know?  :1zhelp:

I sure wished I'd have saved the link, but there was a guy the other day selling a 340 '72 Cuda VIN as a unique key chain. Yep, he had the perfectly good VIN tag on a key chain and was selling it for historical purposes. Boy they are getting creative out there.   :dupe:
