it took well over 500 ft lbs pulling the front wheels on my Duster for 7 years + a lot of street use & that was dropping the clutch @ 5500-6000 rpm on slicks with ladderbars , they are a Very tough tranny

Which flywheel and bell housing do you use with it for the Hemi?

depends which belhousing you have , you will either need a true 11" set up  or the 10.95" with a 23 x1" spline disc

I'm going to look into this transmission set up some more.

I just ordered the SFI approved flex plate and for break in will use the 727.  If I get a 440 manual trans bell housing will it bolt to those late model manual trans?

Hoping to drop the Hemi in by Friday....

the 833 remained the same for all the years from 64 -92 so yes it will bolt in , the OD uses a larger diameter brg retainer , this can be machined down to the 4.80 size very easily

I received the flex plate from summit today for the hemi. I think I'm going to ponder all these ideas and run the auto trans for a bit. Maybe Chryco or somebody knows where I can find where the ID # are stamped on these autos ( 727 ) ??  Thanks

The Keisler 5 speed is Keisler's adaption of the Tremec 5 speed transmission to various Mopars.   A few years ago, I had a Tremec 5 speed in a Vortech supercharged 357 ci Moostang that was built for trouble.   I know that it wasn't a Mopar, but it was a daily driven and daily abused dyno verified 550 HP car.   I couldn't hurt that trans no matter how badly I abused it.   The car was  3,550 lbs empty and went 11.20's in the quarter at 126 mph.    I abused the trans at every Mustang shootout  and punished the trans regularly at the track.   I am a believer in the strength of that transmission.    And by the way, this was the lowest torque rated Tremec.   There was no TKO available at the time I purchased the trans.

I would put one in my Cuda in a heart beat, but the trans is really pricey compared to the 4 speed 833 OD option.   Even if the 4 speed was not as stout as the Tremec, it could be replaced for a fraction of the cost.

Choices, choices, choices.    Lets not explore the A518 automatic option, like the one that I run in my Cuda.    Like I said, choices, choices, choices.
Cuda 408, Ford EFI, Magnum heads, Vortech V-2 Si-Trim, A-518 transmission and 3.23 gears.

I'm on the teeter totter on this but it sounds like it worked good for you 74cuda. The money is a bit high but so is the motor and finding that original Dana... You don't want to hear that story  :o

 I t is also a LOT more $$$
I have seen the ID stamped on the pan rail & on the flat pad high up on the right side of the Autos

The trans is going to have to be strong behind that 472 Hemi with a 4:10 Dana posi on the ground. I'm going to check the auto trans today for the numbers, at least to see if it it original. It may not hold up to this combination right now. Thanks

833 OD instead of Kiesler..

Just talked with Dan at Brewers...E-body conversion total is around $3,600-3,900. That's for a 23 spline non-overdrive. Overdrive is about 450-500 more. 18 spline is another 600 on top of that.

Looks like us big block, auto guys are looking at approx the same price for Kiesler 5 speed as with an 18 spline, 833 OD complete package from Brewers. (approx 5,000 give or take a couple of grand). :-\

With my 4:10 rear, using the Kiesler 5 speed, 1st gear would be usless, except if I wanted to go from 0-15mph real quick.

I'm guessing, going with the 833 conversion, any pieces/parts needed in the future would be easier to come by...and, on the street, probably could get by with the 23 spline instead of the 18.

What do you guys  think?
Jeff

it depends where you get your parts, a lot of the needed parts can be located for less than Brewers Charges, I have seen swaps completed for under $1400

Not too much purpose in shooting from zero to 15 mph. The Dana I have now has the 354 gears and may do a little better with the Keisler.  I don't really have the time to go searching for parts so I think I'm kind of leaning towards the Keisler with the overdrive. I heard they have a six speed coming out too. :o
