After about not even 10 starts on a brand new starter (on the newly rebuilt 440), the starter puked. Autozone replaced it under warranty (bought it in march). got it changed out this morning, and set the timing with Todd's help. drove the car around the storage unit lot for about 6 or 7 laps, and the needle on the temp gauge stayed still, right at the top end of the white box. now i gotta get the little water leaks on the new hoses taken care of. i will get to that this afternoon when i get the honey-do's done, and the car has had a chance to cool down.
