New rear leaf springs
« on: April 26, 2008 - 02:15:51 PM »
My 74 Challenger is leaning in all the wrong directions (nose-up, tail down) so the need for new springs is evident. A friend has offered me a new set that he has but thinks they are SS springs. I took the numbers off the springs today (1) 80556PN 3124 P3690460  (2) 80556PN 2615 3690461 . The springs are also different in length by 1 1/2 inches. I know that there is probably a left and right.
Question is are these the right springs for my car and if they are SS how much higher will the car sit from stock ride height??

well depending on how dead your current springs are, if they are super stocks (didnt google the #s), it will sit a good distance higher. I believe i got about 2" over my stockers swapping to s/s springs. Also you will need new front hanger spring mounts to run s/s springs in an ebody. Should be able to find them at mancini racing or something.

3690460 and 3690461 are the 3600 lb super stock springs.
3690461 is the left side.
As Goody mentioned you will need new spring hangers.  For a budget aproach you could get the super stock spring hangers with the higher upper hole and it would "lower" the car a couple of inches and probably negate most of the rise in car height due to the SS springs. :2cents:

Thanks, I tried running the numbers and the search said part # not found.  I didn't want to raise the car over stock because I'm staying with a pretty conservative tire combo and empty wheel wells bother me. I'll look for the modified hangers and see what i'm getting into.

 Thanks for the replies

I have 3 different old black and white promotional ads from late 1969 of the "new" Challenger. They all sat that way. My car sat that way when I bought it, but I bought after-market springs from Espo with an additional 2" lift, since I wasn't fond of the original stance.
