How far back for H-pipe?
« on: April 28, 2008 - 08:41:36 PM »
I got a H-pipe kit to cut in and I have to put it back by the front of the driveshaft due to pipes not being straight until there.  How far back before it becomes an issue?  I mean is it detrimental to performance in anyway or does it not matter?

merge pipe should be halfway between the header collectors and mufflers.

So if I put it just past the trans cross member I'm good?

Yeah I've already been scolded a few times.

I thought the 2.5 ton rating was enough. :dunno:  And they are all the way up in that pic.  I'll use the 6 tonners when I do the h-pipe. :2thumbs:

I got it.  I guess these little ones can hold up the exhaust when I start cutting.

Remember safety first,   :iagree:   You don't have to cut the pipes to install the "H" pipe, just make a reasonable hole that will be covered by the joining pipe. Behind the rear mount should be fine.   :2thumbs:

Every engine will have different exhaust temperatures due to it's build and so the ideal location for the balance pipe will vary.
The correct place for the H crossover can be determined (oldschool backyard method ;))by marking a crayon line along the pipe, start the engine and get up to temp and the point where the crayon melts to is the ideal location for the crossover pipe.
Of course by necessity things like trannys in the way can over ride the best location. ???
