I think he wants a roadster instead of a convertible, i.e., he wouldn't need to find any of the convertible parts.

Baldy, for what it's worth, I wouldn't do it myself, but as others have said, it's your car and you should do with it what will make you happy.

Welcome to the site and I tend to agree it is your car do with it what you like. Just remember once chopped up there maybe no going back. Most all parts are now avalible to save the car but if you make a roadster or vert remember to brace it well or there will be problems down the road.

I just got an idea.... what about a "removeable" hard top..... you could buy a roof skin and work with that.... You did only pay $250 for it, so its not like your losing much if its as bad as you say... can we see some pictures Baldy??

Bondo up the original roof after you cut it off and use as a mold to make a fiberglass removable hardtop, maybe even make a cover for the rear seat area so it looks like a two seater=poor mans Viper!

I'm with the restore or sell it crowd. Good to be different but only if the job is just too much ie: parts car conditioned roof. Your car and all but the car can't speak for itself. It's like cutting off Bob Marley's dreads, bad idea.  :-[

I think both of those responses are somewhat harsh. Baldy may appreciate his car just fine ... and want it to be a roadster. While it's not the choice I would make, it might still be cool to see.

:iagree:  It would be interesting to see if there are driveability issues/rigidity issues down the road several years from now even after subframe connectors, etc. are used.  Those can only give so much support and keep in mind those subframe connectors were to be used in conjuction with a roofed car or a convertible from the factory I would imagine.

If you used those frame connectors/torque boxes/etc... in conjuction with an 8 or 10 point roll cage, it might work, sorta maybe...  :dunno: :misbehaving:
This topic reminds me of an old MGB I went to look at.  The frame had rusted out so that the doors were the only thing keeping the car from folding up on itself.  :faint:

there is a reason ma mopar made verts with double rocker panels. i dont believe sub frame connectors offer the same structure strenght.one deep pot hole and the roadster turns into a low rider!

Pretty much. From Wikipedia:

Roadster is the North American term (spyder in England) used for a 2-seater lightweight car without a permanent top.

So I guess technically, to be a roadster, it would also need the back seat area filled in ala torredcuda's idea or the YElow Jacket showcar.
