Anyone Buying The 440 Source Heads For $899.00
« on: May 01, 2008 - 10:34:21 PM »
Just seems like a good deal?  They are like $700.00 less than the compareable INDY heads?  I guess these heads are still unproven?  I did see a write up in one of the Mopar mags about them, they thought it was a good deal.  What do you guys think?

I will have feedback on these shortly , I have taken a bunch of pix & ported them already just need time to post it all
bottom line they are a decent head IMO , the portmatching on the intake side is near perfect out of the box , the porting in the intake side is approx the same size as I port Irons heads to , there is some extra meat arount the intake valve guide whuch can be trimmed but not enough to fully shape the way i do the iron heads , the exhaust port is small , I typically open the iron heads bigger than the stealth heads are but there is lots of room to open them up , the exhaust  has minimal floor height with zero excess around the guide to remove or shape , the is virtually no excess flashing or core shift & slight ridges just inside the ports that should be blended
decent head for the $$ , not a lot of port clean up needed , I would like to see a raised exhaust floor , smaller volume heart shaped swirl chamber & 10 * locks & retaineers used
I will try to get this set onto a flow bench soon to see what the flow is like

If you get on moparts they have been bashing those heads for months.... all kinds of quality issues..... yes $899 but by the time your done you will be in much deeper.... its a total crap shoot with those heads......  :2cents:

However the guys that got them all fixed up and have ported them got good numbers.... One of the issue is the locks as neil recomends the *10 locks... all kinds of head gasket firering issues... etc... heads need machining to run 1.6 rockers an the list goes on........  :eek4:

I say wait for the new batch 440 "race" head..... hopefully have all the quality issues gone...
