First look at the Stealth heads
« on: May 02, 2008 - 02:10:14 AM »
I will have feedback on these shortly , I have taken a bunch of pix & ported them already just need time to post it all
bottom line they are a decent head IMO , the portmatching on the intake side is near perfect out of the box , the porting in the intake side is approx the same size as I port Irons heads to , there is some extra meat arount the intake valve guide whuch can be trimmed but not enough to fully shape the way i do the iron heads , the exhaust port is small , I typically open the iron heads bigger than the stealth heads are but there is lots of room to open them up , the exhaust  has minimal floor height with zero excess around the guide to remove or shape , the is virtually no excess flashing or core shift & slight ridges just inside the ports that should be blended
decent head for the $$ , not a lot of port clean up needed , I would like to see a raised exhaust floor , smaller volume heart shaped swirl chamber & 10 * locks & retaineers used
I will try to get this set onto a flow bench soon to see what the flow is like

Nice work Chryco! I am seriously thinking about those heads. For the money I dont think there is a better deal. With 500" to feed I would like 300 CFM@.600 lift which is what my lift will be using 1.6 ratio rockers and a flat tappet cam. I have access to a SuperFlow Bench and will start on them as soon as I get the cash to buy them. Would you say offhand that they are as good as the Eds as far as casting quality?

casting quality looks good , I didn`t CC the heads but the measurements i took they look smaller then the ported Iron heads I do
you will need to do more rresearch on the heads but I doubt they will make big power on 500+ inch builds , I may be wrong

Thanks Chryco, I am interested in them due to the fact I'm not building a maximum effort drag engine. I would be very happy with 600 H.P. and more importantly a nice flat torque curve. The most important thing to me is durability. I think from reading your results they would be as durable as the Edelbrocks wouldnt you?

Hi CP,

Have you done any more port work to any 440 source heads yet and any chance of some flow numbers please.

I have a set here and i tell you, i am so happy with them and would not look twice at an Edelbrock head, looked at an 88cc Edelbrock head yesterday and it was junk compared to the 440 source head.

I have to get rods and pistons before i touch the heads.  Dropping heads on to block after final clearance for pistons and then scribe where the cylinders are on the head, and go from their.........  I will post when i start :2thumbs:
