Thought I would calculate the theorectical HP level using the intake flow.

Lets call it 255cfm @ 28"

That equates to 524.5 HP on my claculator. Not bad for unported heads. How easy would it be to get another 50 HP I wonder?

Easy........ they have an edge on the inner side of the valve seat that needs blending and also their is a lot that can be ground away from the valve stems :2thumbs:

Well that is the next step isn't it.

Someone (AirFuelEddie?) should do a flow test after a simple "home port" type of job to see what the results are.

I've read horror stories about ALL the big companies that specialise in Mopes and even more on local shops. That's why I do things myself and only trust a local machinist/Pro Mod racer that I know to do stuff I can't handle myself, like cylinder boring. The script at the bottom of my posts is actually from the back of his buisness cards and something I subsribe to when I do head/motor work. If you have no such relationship or machinery and skill you're at the mercy of whomever.  :dunno:

Hughes products are pretty good.

It is Dave Hughes himself that is the problem. He is as mad as a box of frogs. :lol2:

He does not listen to what you are saying, usually completely misunderstands you, and flies off the handle.

If asked a question he will start going on about something not even relevant, and fly off the handle.

If you open your mouth to say hello, there is a good chance he will jump down your throat.

He is a pig headed, extreme right wing, bigoted, hot headed, stressed, rude, heart attack and stroke victim waiting to happen.

But apart from that he is great! I have a pair of his heads and one of his cams.

The last set of heads I did for a customer were GT-40P's for a 302 stang. I ate the shipping costs that were more than I estimated and
threw in a cleaning & glass beading because he shipped them to me pretty much the way they were removed in a junkyard  :pullinghair: I figured they would at least be degreased. I even called him twice to make sure he was happy with them. The car did 12.70's with a peg-leg rear and he was.  ;D

We do have some of the numbers posted on our website. We actually flowed the heads on our bench and two different Superflo benches and our bench flowed the lowest numbers.
Here is the CNC Victors numbers. http://www.hughesengines.com/partDetail.asp?partID=12760&eTypeID=14

And...... I know how different flow benches can be between shops. Some shops do not even correct their numbers based on "the weather" etc.... so it gets to be a mess. Anyway, this is just my opinion based on my experience with these different heads. So far, the 440 Source Stealth heads and the Pro Comp heads seem to be good quality heads. They both look nice. The only problem we have with them is that they do not flow as good as the U.S.A. built Edelbrock heads do. We are glad to port the other heads but we do our best to try and support our friends at Edelbrock.

Over the years I put a lot of people Hughes Engines way. People from my Challenger Message Board (1,100 members). People from the UK Mopar club I am an active member of (500 members). Friends building their cars. Etc.

But I have been embarrassed on a few occasions by the way they were treated. In particular if they "had the nerve" to ask Dave Hughes any questions.

Now how can I advise people to go to Dave if there is any chance he is going to rant down the 'phone at them?

I can't can I?

Hughes Engines posted an article on their website throwing dirt at 440 Source. Brandon had to respond in order to put the record straight. So who is doing the dirty business here?

Now you come on here as if you are some sort of dissatisfied 440 Source customer. When in fact you are working for Dave Hughes. How do you think that looks to the world outside of "Fort Hughes"?

I think Hughes Engines should concentrate on making the customer service aspect of their business better rather than trying to throw mud at their competitors. Keeping Dave away from the phone or taping his mouth would be a good start. Replying to emails would be another good step. Maybe even a decent returns policy.
I don't think Hughes would have gone out of business if they had sent a replacement solid lifter to me to replace the damaged one in the set supplied. Saving a couple of dollars by ripping me off cost you a good few customers wanting stroker kits I can tell you. ;)

Hey bro, Im 99% sure that Jason (Stroker) does not work for Huges.  If Im worng please let me know.  I think that Stroker was posting something that "Kevin" posted on another board or an email he recived just as a reference for us to see what Huges is putting out there.  Not to talk down about 440source.com but as puting word out there that has been circulating.  I know Stroker is NOT a 440source fan.  If Im way off base on this let me know.  I may have missed something posted and deleted or something like that  :dunno:

don you are correct... but I am not a "Brandon" fan.. 440source has a place in the market whether his customer sevice skills suck or not... what has it done for me you ask.... his crappy attitude and cheap priced parts has had other vendors lower prices on some of their higher end parts for guys like me

I've never dealt with either one but years ago I used to deal with both Ed Hamburger and Herb McCandless on the phone. They would both talk to you and answer your questions and I spent more than a few hours at Ed's shop in Toms River NJ talking with him about engine stuff
when his shop was in his garage behind his house. Maybe it's a lost art?  :dunno:
