Hi Hemiken,if you can provide part numbers for the ford pump I might try one and see how it goes.
aussie challenger,I got my power steer box done by the Steering King in Toongabbie (Syd) mob 0418274576,it is much better than the standard one,he machined up more plates to give it more road feel and Im quite happy with it but Id like to try the ford pump to see if there is any more road feel.Ive heard that the place to go for a wheel alighn is tyre power in Blacktown, that is if you live in Syd.

Thanks loco440, I live a few miles south of the border, the bloke I have used many times for odd ball power steering boxes or pumps is in Mitchem Vic. I only use him for the out of town stuff as he has been doing it for many years.
I will give your bloke a ring and find out more about these plates you talk about. I know in the earlier frauds and holden boxes you could sleeve the box and reduce the piston down for less assist, but as I haven't touched my steering box yet I am not sure what is inside.

It is a Ford pump, i will get the proper number from the Saginaw pump.

They fit and look exactly the same as original Mopar Saginaw pumps. :2thumbs:

Just got off of the phone from the shop that rebuilds my power steering pumps and boxes.  He doesn't know of any pumps that neutralise or stop pumping as pump speed increases. When the steering is in the straight ahead position the pump fluids just go straight back to the pump.
Looks like I will have to check inside the steering box and see what I can change, apparently there were 2 different sized pistons in these steering boxes.   :working:
I will have to track down the smaller if mine doesn't already have it. That is going to have to wait for a while though unless I come across another box I can do up.

Aussie,
I know this is an old discussion, but I'm new to the group and was looking for solutions to the same "no road feel" problem you mentioned.  Did you have any luck improving the stock setup.  Although, the ford pump was mentioned as a possible solution did not see any feedback from anyone that had actually tried it.

Give Heidt's a call, but I think you can use one of these in our type of boxes:

Well, I spoke with Heidt's and they say their in-line adjustable pressure valve will fix the "no road feel" that is typical with Mopar power steering units, but they don't have the fixings to connect it.  They said they mainly deal with GM and Ford stuff.  They say their unit has pipe threads for connections and they believe the size is 1/2 on one line and 3/8 on the other.

So now my question is, has anyone installed one of these units on our era Cudas-Challys and/or can anyone offer suggestions for connectors.  I would want to achieve a professional looking install, not something cobbled together from hardware store fittings, if you know what I mean.

As always, thanks for your help.
