CONFUSED Anybody want an M46 barracuda?
« on: May 02, 2008 - 06:31:08 PM »
It is really hard for me to hold back changing the options on my car.  I really dont want to start changing the car up. I am not wanting to clone it or anything. I wanna tie the frames, tubs, ladder bar , and put my big engine in a street car along with my big dana and built to the hilt 727.

I just dont want to let this piece of history fade like others. The pieces for this car are hard to find. I wanna build another car, and probably should. I got like 10 more items in boxes just waiting to be opened and install the parts on my m46 car now. I even found a factory 440 dual point for my 6 pack engine I installed in it. This is about the only item changed in the whole build. (the engine)Other than the sport hood and 15x7's.  I still need a factory black grill and lower black grill.

Dont get me wrong, It's a fun car, but I miss having a 9 sec street car.  I was one click away from buying a set of indy heads a few hours ago, and to start buying up the bottom end stuff.

I guess I should wait for another solid shell. I saw an add in the mobile alabama local shopper for a 72 cuda needs restoring for 2k. Maybe thats the answer.  I dont really care for rally gauges either since I like to run my own set ups.

I got this shelby daytona here, but it's not an e body (barracuda) wouldnt be the same.

Oh well, I got the weekend off, so I will do some thinking. Age vs health vs money vs time vs the wow wee factor. This car does run pretty good as it is for a top end car. I should just consider driving it as is and maybe go slow on another build.

What cha think?

Alan,

It doesnt soumd like your real happy with your current situation?  Sounds like you want to go fast!  The 72 seems like it wouldnt be a bad idea?  Round tail lights are the way to go for sure!!!

My opinion sell the car your not happy with and build the one you want!   :2cents:

Al, the '72 sounds like it would be something you could use to get the "quick street car" syndrome you seem to be having and keep the '70 M46-coded Barracuda for your fun car to enjoy as-is. :2thumbs:

Hi Alan,

Keep the M46 so you still have something to cruise in while building the tuffy streeter old mate. :2thumbs: maybe you should look at doing a 71, have you had a 71 yet ?

Well, I had me a knap and feel better now. I was up 23 hrs doing an emergency on a cement kiln. Man what a long day it was and I wasnt thinking clearly for sure. I really enjoy my m46 car and will probably keep it. Hard to find a 70 as it is with no rust. I will just take my time and build me something else, something that will run with the big boys. I was thinking when I woke up about calling Bob at the super charger store. We go back a few years and he is mopar specific. I'm sure I might could play even better with forced induction and keep the fuel costs down. I think his 800 hp kit is like 3500. Just need a stout bottom end, and drivetrain.

I have had every year e body both cuda and challenger. Every year gtx,rr, and 67 68 69 70 coronet, 71 and 72 sat, demon, duster, lil reds, 300 hurst chrysler, 69 300 vert, 67 300, 63 max wedge fury....Had a few. I still have some e bodies, but the swamps and Hurricane Katrina kinda made them more parts cars than fixers. I sold my 68 dart 499 cube to purchase this m46 car as a project. I still have my 72 cuda race car, just want a bad to the bone street car. Stroker gave the bug back to me last year and I havent got it out of my mind yet.

Guess I wasnt clear minded when I made the post. The m46 car might hit a high 12 if I swap a gear and get it to hook up. It isnt stock, but it isnt over 450 hp or so. It has flat tops .010 in the hole with valve reliefs, mild ported 906 heads with 214 / 181 valves comp 275 xe hl cam, eagle rods and a good working 6 pack, 4 spd , 323 sure grip , 2.5 exhaust choking it down though. It would have to be un corked

How about finding a Stealth twin turbo drivetrain and mount that in that Daytona you got?I think that would be scary fast.

I have been through the same battle 4 times now , I keep buying Chargers looking for a fast street car to build [real fast ]
the first charger was a 70 440 4 spd 4 bbl r/t track pack , it burned so I bought another body shell to build , it was a 70 R/T SE 440 4 spd Track pack , so I sold it then I bought a lowly 72 Charger to build no value in a 72 right ... it was a a 400 4spd ralley in Gunmetal , not available that year , production is lower than 200 & rarer than both 70s , sold that one & bought a basket case 71 Charger that turns out to be one of 70 something 440+6 4 spd r/t track pack cars built , I believe I have now sold that one as I cannot bring myself to build that car either .... now if I was looking for a rae car to build I doubt I could find one but when you just want a solid car to build a toy from .....decisions decisions  :banghead:

LOL! Then just try looking for a rare car then?  ;)

On a similar note, there was a guy in Norway who wanted to buy his younger brother a not so powerful car to begin with, so he bought a 80's Buick with a V6.
A little anemic V6, right...?
Uh-oh, not so in a Buick Grand National... :roflsmiley:
When he realised what he had there, he kept it himself. Should be a fun car to have while he restores his 69 Hemi GTX.

Don't get rid of it!  I think you'd regret it.
Buy a Dart and build the bejebus out of it.

Hell, he ain't OLD , he's 10 years younger than me and I'm the "youngest" 62 year old fart ya ever want to meet !  :roflsmiley: I however agree though Al, if you want to build a "cheap" badazz street car, the light A body is a logical direction, wheather it be an early Cuda or a 70's  Dart..............I can't wait to get my 440 dual quad in my 71 Swinger, now that ought to be a hell raisin street machine. And I know that you are a whole lot more qualified to build one than I ever will be.

Old isnt really the issue. It is the types of hard work from the past that has cracked, broken, fractured, or nibbled on my bones that has me hampered some. I usually out work any 30 plus yr old person on any given day. Just ache all the time. A broken pelvic and 5 fused lower verts make it tough to bend over to work, then 1 foot crushed a hand smashed and both arms pulled out of socket at more then one time have made movements slow for me.

But I am a fighter at heart and never give up.  I will also keep the thought of an e body street build. I know I can build an a body and such to go light, but I want a street e body again.

As part of the over the hill gang, I can relate to the aches /pains/arthritis/ect. But Al you still gotta have some fun!!  Leave the car alone , start a fresh street thumper project and just do it when you can/and feel like it!  :2thumbs:
