Newbie from Florida
« on: May 02, 2008 - 09:43:01 PM »
Hello,

I've been registered for a while and it's finally time to introduce myself.

I live in Florida, I'm a Mechanical Engineer and I have worked in the Automotive Industry for 22 years. The coolest thing I worked on was the Manual Adjustable Pedals for the 1st Generation Viper. Overall, I've worked on Airbag Sensors, Seatbelts, Seats, Adjustable Pedals, Electronic Throttle Controls and now I develop Headrest DVD Entertainment Systems. I've crash tested everything from 20,000 lb Class 8 Tractors, School Busses, Pickups, Cars to Golf Carts.

My project is a 1971 Challenger Convertible, I've owned the car for 18 years and have dragged it with me from New Jersey, to Michigan, to Texas, back to Michigan, to Indiana and now Florida. It's been taken apart for 15 years and soon I will be starting back on it after a long hiatus. I'm not sure what the plan is because I've changed my mind over the years. Originally it was going to be Plum Crazy 440-6, 4-speed, Dana Clone. Now I'm leaning toward White 5.7L Hemi with a 4-speed overdrive.

I also have a 1969 Newort Convertible which is a nice driver that use a couple of times a month. My daily driver is a Dakota R/T.

Here are some pictures of the Challenger buried in the garage.

Welcome to the site and looks like you will have a nice vert when you get it done. I would go for the 5.7 and 4-speed overdrive which would make for a great driver all around.

New hemi is the 'wave of the future'. Like the LS1 to the bow-tie boys. I'd love to run one of them in my car!

Hi,

Welcome to the site. Like to see another person on here from Florida as I am from Orange Park. Good luck with the project. I sell cars and parts for a living so keep me in mind if you need any parts. Thanks, Amanda

Welcome! What part of florida are you in?

Lakeland, between Tampa and Orlando.

I was at SEMA in 2006 when your Dad's car was done. I go most years as part of my job.

I love Mopars, but I always end up with projects for GM and Ford. I worked on the ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) Pedal for the C5 Vette, but never got past the Prototype phase for the 300/Charger over at Mopar.

I'm pretty solid on going new Hemi.

I will post more pictures as I get her unburied.

Yep, Rallye dash, AC and an 8-track bezel. Radio is long gone.

I have the fender tag and build sheet stashed away. I'll post them when I come across them.

I'm surprised to find so many members from down under. I've been to Australia many times, I hope to go again soon since I'm currently working with the blokes at Holden on some accessories for the G8.
