No, you could just buy one from Napa, O'Reilly, Rock, etc.  Probably half the cost and roughly the same performance as stock.

Sorry, what was meant was FF and S&G are it as far as going woth a firmer feel.

I definately dont want to go thru the hassle of swapping it out and have the same skittish loose steering feel.

Then "Yes" those are the only two that are widely used.  You may find Billy Bob's Steering and Tackle, but you're on your own at that point.

My S&G firm feel is still the same as the day I installed it. I need on done for my 73 Challenger project. I would use them again but hate that people have had problems with the gear boxes. I'll decide in the next couple months which I will use.

Well, my box just got dropped at the UPS stop and is on its way across the country to Firm Feel to be re-built into a stage 3.

Since were talking firm feel steering I had a question.

If anyone has been paralelled parked in a manual steering box car (basically boxed in at a curb with cars parked in front of you and behind) and effort to get out.

Take that same scenario and compare it to a stage 3:

How much harder is a manual steering to get the car out of that situation vs. a firm feel stage 3?

Or put another way...How much steering drag difference and road feel?

I have the firmest from Stear & Gear and it is no where near firm enough for my taste.  The difference between it and a manual box is night and day.

I was talking to a guy named Tom at S&G and he said if the box isn't firm enough, they can rework it to however firm you want it, "make it like a manual, if you want" he said.

  It's hard to describe the stage 3.  You can still tell it's power steering.  Not even close to manual.  No play in the box.  Move the wheel a quarter inch and the car responds.

    I just installed a stage 2 box and pump from FFI in a 70 Cuda. Really I dont see much difference from stock, there is zero slack and it doesnt leak. I dunno if I had 2 cars side by side I might be able to tell you.  When you spend 1000 bucks in steering components (tube UCA, t-bars, adjustable strut rods, poly bush, new box, new pump, QR arm) It should drive like a new car, and it does. 
    As far as compared to a stock box (WHICH BY THE WAY, YOU CANT GET ANYMORE!!  part stores say yeah we got em, but ask em to locate one and when it will be there!! Special order )  Its just about like Ma Mopar intended, only with a A little piece of mind.  Dont get me wrong, Im not knocking FFI or anyone, but I cant tell hardly any difference in resistance. I had a small snag/ pump issue (their fault) with FFI, but they took care of it, no charge. Id purchase again, good people, good product.  :chatting:

I need my pump rebuilt...federal thompson leaking from the front of the housing. Also might be picking up some hi po exhaust manifolds soon, so I may do a stage 3 box at the same time since that whole area will be up and apart for awhile. :working:
FF or S&G is the question.
I'm closer to S&G and they can just ship me a remanufactured unit, so that is a lot quicker than me having to send my box to FF and waiting up to 2 weeks to get it back from the opposite end of the country. I dont need my same box back.
I know S&G has had some issues I read about here from a couple of you guys, but for the cheaper price and convenience, I think I'll give em a try.
