quarter replacement help
« on: May 04, 2008 - 09:36:23 PM »
I'm going to buy the goodmark full quarters, but I don't really want to mess with the factory seam where the roof and quarter meet.  Can I get some suggestions on either how you redid the factory seam or worked around it.  I was told by someone I work with to weld it shut and duraglass over it, but I don't want it to crack or lift later.  I saw an awesome looking black challenger but at the seams it was popping out and I felt bad for the guy.  Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

weld the seam solid and duraglass it. If you have a high HP engine with NO frame connects then it wont matter what you do. It will still flex and crack their.

So since I'm just going with my original 318 it won't flex it enough to cause any problems.  Good then thats what I'll do.  Thanks for the help.

mopar daves car looks great . the only thing i would do different is after welding i would use a thin line of marine tex then a light skim of filler .the factory in 70 and later used straight filler with five spot welds at the layover .this is the program we used at our shop since 78 no cars have had lifting  or cracks yet .good luck

dave marine tex was used during ww2 and on ,in ship yards i belive it was devoped by gm it would look like jb weld and its usable under water. when  the patent run out gm would use it to bond the seams on corvettes glass to glass and aluminum and steel to steel . i have been using it for many years no failures the black cuda in my newbe page was painted in 85 and still wins shows holds up great no moisture to push out the back of seams it comes in qts  aprox price is 60.00 paint supplys and boat shops .craig

Is the marine tex the same as PC-11? If you don't know, it is a 2 part epoxy. It is like JB Weld. They do have a waterproof version. I believe it is now called marine weld. You can buy a small tube of it at Home Depot.
