Having Problems Getting Points And A Rotor

I bought a set a of points and rotor for my 71 318. The points are to short, doesn't hit the cam. Rotor is too small. Got another set rotor is to big. Same problem with the points.  :stomp: Went to Napa , got another set of points. They were right , but they sold me used points. :banghead: :pullinghair:   Summit is telling me there could have been 2 distributors in a 318. heavy duty or hi-po  :dunno: Heavy duty are 23 oz. Hi-po are 32 oz. How can I tell the difference before I order another set ?

Time to move up to Electronic Ignition.  It's a lot simplier and better performance.

You should upgrade to electronic as the car will start so much easier, run better and best of all it will be more power along with fuel economy............. :-*   And Happy Birthday for the other day sweetie.

We understand about the  :money:

but you can find it cheaper somewhere else other that Summit.  Mopar Performance will have it too.

What is the effect of changing out points/rotor/condenser for electronic ignition as far as the car's value? I would suspect it hurts the "all original" value. I ask because I  eventually want to restore my 70 440 RT/SE, but many yrs ago I had already switched over to EI, mainly because it was so hard to find points/condensers for the original dual-point ignition. I see from alot of pics in this forum and from cars at shows, that alot of people have switched over to EI, is this just an accepted fact of life in the automotive field in that so many people have switched over?

I feel it is a accepted modification , as you found parts are hard to find & the reliability of electronic is a no brainer
 only the trailer queens still use the points anymore ......Oh & Jackie

:iagree:  This old book wouldn't scan straight but you can get the idea for the wiring.

After looking at this diagram I do not remember if the stock unit has to use all 5 pin connections which would mean a 4 prong ballast resistor. I'll add the other diagram.  Someone who knows for sure, tell Jackie which diagram to use. I think it is the bottom diagram for stock ign. box and the top diagram for the high performance ign. box.
