Instructions for steering coupler rebuild??
« on: May 07, 2008 - 10:04:08 AM »
Does anybody have photos or instructions for a steering coupler rebuild they could post?  With the help of some older posts I bought all the parts, but the photos on the old posts no longer exist and I don't want to get it wrong.

it is actually very simple , drive out the solid pin the the steering shaft install the new rubber gasket & steel cover & replace tthe solid pin  then the spring goes on over the pin & the 2 shoes go onto the pin & spring , the spring sit to one side of the shaft Not under the end of it , now slide all the parts into the coupler , dpressing the spring as it goes into the coupler  , the tiny pin is driven into a small hole at the top of the coupler to keep it from slding apart . the Claws on the steel cover plate need to be bent over slightly so they grip the top of the coupler , this is the worst part , it is a poor design at best , the roll pin is driven through the coupler after you slide th ecoupler over the steering shaft on the steering box

I found that water pump or plumbers? pliers are the best for squeezing the ears down as they reach to opposite sides of the cap.  It's too late now but if you buy the coupling kit off of Ebay from Richard Ehrenberg? he sends instructions with photos with the kit.
