you will need steel headlight buckets & frame to weld onto the front fender , , I don`t know of any source short of buying a pair of fenders

You have 1972 -74 fenders.  You need 1970-71 fenders.  They are not the same.

Maybe...but to be on the safe side, you might want to find a '70 or '71 and make some measurements of that area and see where the differences are.  It might be easier to mount new fenders.

Yes, they are pricey - but so are 72-74 fenders.  And unless you want to keep them "just in case," you can sell them (and the grille and header, etc) to re-coup some of the cost.

There are a couple of places to get headlight buckets for the '70, '71 fenders.

Unlimited products http://www.up22.com/index.htm sells fiberglass copies. I've heard mixed reviews on these, obviously not as good as having the real thing, and I'm not exactly sure how you'd have to attach them to the fenders. You might be able to get away with riveting/bolting them to the inner fenderwell/radiator support structure, but I haven't seen it done.

You can also get metal headlight buckets from B/E & A restortation http://beaparts.com/default.asp, but if the price of the fenders was too high for you you're probably out of luck, they sell for 317 bucks. Although, they do come with "mounting feet" so you may be able to work something similar out for the fiberglass ones...

B/E & A also make patch panels for the side marker lights, so you could weld in the proper panels for the '70/'71 side markers.

You'll also need the front latch panel, hood latch release mechanism, and possibly the hood latch, as these are all mounted in different places for the '70 grille. The top latch panel is an integral part of the 72-74 grille, so you can't reuse that. You may also need the grille support upright, not sure on that one...

Yeah, I've been looking at converting mine over...Can you tell?  :grinno:

In addition to the headlight buckets is it required to change out the physical inner fender structure as well?
