Dye or paint for the interior
« on: May 09, 2008 - 10:14:41 AM »
I have green kick panels, trim & a blue console.  :puke:  I would like them to be black.  What should I use to chang them?  They make "dye" for it, but I heard that was just like paint.  Does anyone have a preference on which to use?

Dye is the way to go (SEM products to be specific).  If you look back through some prior threads, you will find plenty of advice on how to do it.  A good weekend will get them looking like new.

Sem is probably the best product I have found , it also has a good Precleaner although really I have not been impressed on the kick panels anyway , they still seem to scratch easily
I would seriously look for black panels , they are the most common & sell the colored ones to people that need them

SEM is the only probduct I have really had any luck with and would agree try and find black kick panels as they take alot of abuse and the dye paint will not hold up very long.

I did mine with SEM about 3 years ago. They have held up just fine so far. You do need to prep them first though. They sell that too. The black Landau paint covers puke green panels nicely.   :grinyes:

they still seem to scratch easily I would seriously look for black panels

Agreed. I had B5 Blue panels, re-dyed them black, they look real good but could be a little better, to me anyhow. They scratch easily and still have a few old marks from wear and tear from elbows that couldn't be removed. I'm now looking for good condition factory black panels to restore for both my E-Bodies. It's the only way to get the best possible fit and finish.
