MP electronic distribuitor swap

i am going to get the MP electronic distribuitor kit this week and was wondering if anyone has any advice on putting this in? summit said something about needing a voltage regulator too???

No need to change your VR.  The instructions are pretty straight-forward.
I would suggest getting 1 of the module brackets, this will keep it cooler and you won't get the "death ooze".

where do i get a modual bracket? can i get that from summit too? where should i mount the box?

Most people put the box on the firewall, passenger side near top.  That's where mine is.  Look at other engine compartments and decide what you like. 

I'll have to look around, been awhile since I bought my bracket.  Here's something specialized, but you get the idea.  The bracket keeps the module off the firewall keeping it cooler.

use some di-electric grease on the bolts holding the ECU on so the ground stays connected

I was going to mount my ECU to the bottom of the battery tray where it cannot be seen.  I will have to extend the wires though.  Would this cause any forseeable problems?

I wont be able to get picks until this weekend.  All I did was just drill 2 holes in the bottom of the tray to correspond to the mounting holes on the ECU.  You will have to extend the wires, but you could tie them with the front wiring harness.  I believe Jims auto parts sells the tape.  You cannot see it unless you are really looking for it.

Just be VERY sure the grounds stay clean and good. I would not use the factory type module under the tray for that reason. I clean the metal bare, use the dielectric grease like CP, and in some cases run a seperate ground strap to the block. The better the ground, the less likely of having issues in rain or humid weather in a year or two.

ususally they are mounted on the inner fender under the tray not onto the underside of the tray , if you are using a Gel battery no issue but if you  use a acid type you could have problems with corrosion etc

Why don't you go with the Pertronix unit, it's totaly stock appearing under the cap and no ECU to worry about? Uses the stock distributer too!

i had the ignitor system on my car before the fire, but after the fire, it totally fried. just figured that i would go this rout this time. also, this route comes with the vacuum advance, mine is toast from the fire.
