Al,
It is the same number as the 8&3/4 axel.  The axle is shorter in the Dana than the 8 &3/4 for the same application.  I used to use the early (shorter) B-body 8 &3/4 axle in the Dana that was for an Ebody.  What are you trying to do or figure out?

Well, Im taking my truck dana to a shop tomorrow to have it narrowed down to fit my barracuda. They are installing moser ends and perches.  It's got a 354 one legger in it now, I found an ebay listing for ebody dana axles but the guy isnt positive. He said he counted 31 splines and they were both the same lenght 31.750  it doesnt sound right on the lenght and they should be 2 different sizes I had thought.  The dana I have is 30 spine, but I thought that the e bodies were 35 spines :clueless:

I wanna do this one time and put a series 3 power lock or even a track lock in it. I dont want to jump the gun and buy the wrong axles, but if they are original, I would want them

Thanks Stroker, I am going to pass on that guys mystery axles. I dont need any head aches.  I do a 30 spline 8 3/4 axle fits in this dana housing, I tried it plus counted the splines on the floating axles that came out of it. I am thinking about 35 spline all the way.  You were a big help :2thumbs:

Stroker, a big thanks for the info. I owe you one. As it turns out, I was extremely lucky today. Bout time. I took the dana in to be narrowed at R&R speed today. I talked with the owner telling him what I wanted. He said he stocks moser stuff and could get me axles. I said good, then I told him about my spline dilema, and that this dana had 30 spline and I was looking for a 35 spline power lok not a track lok. He shocked me and said he had a few perfect take outs from when they change over to spools for the race cars. So he sold me a series 3 (354 to 410 gears) dana 35 spline power lock for 250 bucks with the bearings and races ready to install :bananasmi. So now I have a complete dana 60 with a power lock factory e body size minus the axles for a grand total of 550 bucks plus taxs, parts and labor. So with the axles , the total is still under 1k for a complete dana for my car, but minus the pinion snubber.  He also steered me to a local shop that can build my drive shaft or shorten the original. I am keeping the original so 200 bucks does a new shaft.   Overall a very good morning. 100 mile round trip drive though

Thanks for the helping info Stroker. Since nobody took me up on the free dana give away in my spring cleaning, next month I am taking the other one in to the guy and having it prepped for a  B body width, and buy another power lock :2thumbs:

Alan,

Sounds like you got hooked up for your Dana!  Is it possible to get a pinion snubber installed on the truck Dana's or no???

Hey Al, good buddy, good pal.....

When you offered the other dana earlier this year I strongly considered responding, but I did not know how I would get it transported to Miami.  Now, I am going to have to drive to Houston for my son's project and can make the side trip up to Cullman if the dana is still available.  Question, if you are willing to part with it, how much would it cost me to have it done like yours?  (I'd like to go with the 3.54 gearing, but everything else would be the same as you mentioned above.)  If this works out, how far are you from Mobile?  Atlanta?

If it works out, I win two ways.  The rear end, obviously, but also the opportunity to meet another of the fine members of this "family" website.

Let me know,

fantum

I found out today it will be a couple more weeks waiting for my dana. They ordered from mosier yesterday, so the housing ends wont be in untill next week, then they have to make time to do everything...Oh well.
