yes, carb is fully opening.
5700 through the trap and will pull to 6500 before it stops pulling.

here's my cam info: timing at .050, intake opens 5.0 btdc closes 43.0 abdc max lift 109* atdc, duration 228*, exhaust opens 58.0 bbdc closes 0.0 btdc, max lift 119* btdc, duration 238*.

from this can a centerline be figured?

Leanburn stated that his 60' times were 2.14-2.16.  He also says they should be 2.00 easy.  I don't think that timing advance is going to pick up a tenth and a half in the 60' times.  Sounds more like torque converter or rear gear or traction issues to me.  I am not saying that getting the timing right won't help, but to get the kind of 60' times improvement he is looking for, he needs to look at the things that effect the launch. In a street car, improvements in the converter, rear gear, and traction will definitely help cut down those 60'  times...    :2cents:    :burnout:    :2thumbs:

Ok so if it will pull to 6500 that rules out valve springs, something else I was thinking of. You can figure out the centerline but not without a degree wheel, dial indicator and piston stop to determine actual TDC

I'm starting to wonder if the converter is messed up or maybe the wrong application. I would think your car should spin the hell out of street radials with that gear and the converter stall speed that high. In which case changes in tuning would have little effect on et's or 60 foot times. Out of all these runs, did the MPH change or was it pretty much the same?

Something is way off we all know that....  however 2.16 is a terrible 60ft and shows it with regular radial tires.... that also should show a higher mph.... at 6500 you think its pulling but might be experiening valve float..... heck the mopar .509 cam is only good to 6000rpm.... you are under .500 camlift after lash setting also.....

mph stayed within 2 mph at the 60', 330', 660', if i posted my slips you guys would think i photocopied them.
on the plus side, i was kickin a$$ as far as consistency goes. :worshippy
i'm out of town right now but when i return my buddy is going to give me a hand, he know's all the fancy smancy stuff.

It is not possible to get the intake centerline with the info given. You need at least the advertised duration and timing, and the .020 lift duration and timing events to plot anything worth while. The best I could do is say its a torque cam, not a HP cam. and I'd expect it to have peak torque in the 3000 range as it's built. The total lack of MPH after the 330' mark tells me the whole package is off. But I'm sure the ignition timing is a problem too. Question is how much. How do you know it revs to 6500? Do the rpms climb on the track? or it's at 5700 for all of 3rd gear? That's odd. Who made the convertor?

It is easy enough to see where it is installed as of now . This will tell him where he is installed. If he wants to do that.  And I dont think he should be crouding the converter, myself, I'd flash it and see if it reacted better. Like 2k or a bit more, then smash it. I myself have been wondering about the converter.

:iagree:   The converter, rear gear, and traction issues were in my first post in this thread.  I am sure he has timing and or carb issues as well, but after reading his track performance information, the more I am convinced he has a converter issue.     :2cents:

o.k i'm back in town. i ran the car out to my buddies and he had a quick listen and of course nothing stands out as far as problems but i did learn that it has solid lifters. he did'nt have time to tear into it but one thing that concerned him was that the specs called for .028 intake and .030 exh on the lash settings. he feels this might be high but not sure he's more into his fords [ not all people are perfect].
so tonight i checked a few things, i checked for play in my timing chain by turning the balancer back with the initial timing mark at o*. i feel hardly any play at all maybe a degree or two [hopefully i'm doing it right].
i checked lash and once again if i'm doing it right they all seem to be dead on .028 and .030.
i meant to check vacuum but of course forgot before i pulled all the plugs.
as far as the tranny goes one thing i do notice is when i first start it cold the car lurches forward a couple of inches. i also get a spike in rpm between 2nd and 3rd [ 200 rpm]. i had a local tranny shop do a service and they said my bands were out to lunch and they adjusted them but it made no difference.
i may have found a dyno, i will contact them on tuesday [monday's a holiday] but in the meantime is there anything else i can check?
by the way it's a tci tranny, i have heard good and bad about them, what do you guys think?

Mopar cams are lashed at 28/32 thou
most others are less around .016

Just out of curiosity, what type of distributor do you have, and how old is it?

it's a msd with no vacuum. i assume it is 10 years old, that is when the motor was built.

everything is closed here until tuesday and im as usual getting impatient so i tried something. i noticed on my cam specs that the exhaust closes at 0* tdc, i used a screwdriver in the #1 hole [ i don't have a proper dial indicator] and turned over the engine very slowly and watched the rocker move. when the piston comes to tdc and starts going down the valve is still closing, with those specs shouldn't the valve be closed at exactly tdc? would this mean i have a cam timing issue? i'm sure it's not that simple, it's just me with one of my usual brain farts.

Cams are measured @ .050 lift so they are still moving after TDC so you may be OK , however I always degree cams when installing them to be Sure they are where they are supposed to be
Where in Canada are you ?

grande prairie, alberta.
yeah, i was pretty sure it wasn,t that easy. i just tried that cause it being 0* tdc i thought it should match the piston tdc and i was able to find out they did'nt match just with a srewdriver. i'll have to wait later this week and get a pro to look at it.
