Nick, id say to look for a 72-74 as well. You'll get an eBody and it wont break the bank. Im partial to the 72-74 barracuda as far as the later models are concerned. Im certainly not plugging this thread with a sale ad, but I can post some pics of my uncles 72 Cuda that is for sale. somewhere in the 19k range. Its a sweet car, 318 and VERY little rust. a great starting point. only thing is its here in Maryland.

Yes I agree also with this statment, I am not looking for a numbers car, I have one and I feel awfull when I look at the Hemi in the garage and I have no car to put it in. I will keep looking, I havn't sold the GTO yet so I have lots of time to look.

Hey Moparl: I could not find the thread you said about the car you sold?

Nick, here's my old challenger. It is still the way it was when Neil got it. I dug these up for you. And shows where I had the vinyl top removed and fixed then left off. And the lower patch panels installed, or rather just pieces cut out of the new ones and installed. And the chrome that run along the sides removed

Alan I remember this car well!  Hope someone from this site gets this car again if its up for sale!  Cool car.  Cant beat a Big Block e body.

Nick as far a what car to get I would get a non-numbers matching Big Block stick shift car in what ever year or body style you like.  If you say cuda's I say go with the 72-74 I perfer the round tail lights, if your going Challenger I would go for a exact 70 T/A Clone or 71 440 R/T Clone.   :2cents:

Hey Nick - doesn't this sound like the '74 in Phoenix we talked about this morning?!  I think you need to get up there and check that one out.   :2thumbs:

Well here is an update to my Cuda and Challenger post.
As of last night I have put a deposit on a car that I have been watching and looking at for about 6 years. The owner has many cars and this one is a good solid driver with a 20ft paint job, it is not a show car and it may never become a show car because I seem to enjoy driving my cars and this one will see the road quite often.

Just as in some of the cars that we have all purchased in the past, we find things that we do not like and this car has these issues also.

Original color was F8 and now it is a pearl dark Blue (color looks real nice, but…)
Original vinal top was F8 and now has a Black gator grain looking top and this looks real good
Original interior was F8 and now has Black which looks good
Original A/C dash pad, owner replaced it with a NON A/C pad (money issue) but A/C unit still intact.
Trunk floor had surface rust on it so the owner sanded it off and completely covered it with epoxy paint, he didn’t like the finished texture of it and decided to cover the epoxy with a very thin coat of fiberglass resin and then smoothed it out. (strange, real strange)
Some of the chrome bright work on the car, gas lid and ring, side marker bezels, hood springs and latch, I think you know what I mean.
And lastly, the worst, the original motor and trans (motor for sure and unsure about the trans) are long gone. He has owned the car for about 15-20yrs and when he purchased the car it was gone and a 360ci was sitting in the K frame unbolted.

Some of the good about the car.

Paint looks real good, I forgot if he said it was 10yrs old
Glass is real good
Top is real good
Sheet metal looks awesome, No bubbling or dents, no repairs at all needed from looking at it on the outside
The bottom of the car looks mint
The gauges look great
Runs good
Tagged and drivable
Tires are fairly new
Chrome mags are nice but will eventually come off and be sold
8-3/4 still under it
The under side and suspension looks real clean under the car, I was shocked how clean it still is.
I noticed a rear sway bar, did they come with one or was it added

I do not have pictures of the car because I didn’t have a camera with me but I am going back this weekend to show my wife the car and I will make sure I will take them then.

The car is a Los Angeles built car so I am pretty sure there will not be a build sheet in it especially since he pulled the green interior and replaced it with a black interior from another car. Maybe there will be one hiding somewhere but I won’t hold my breath.
Here are the tag numbers; I still haven’t had a chance to decipher the tag.

R11 V21 V68 26 END
H51 J25 M21 N41 N42 N85
EF8 A62 B51 C16 C55 G33
EF8 H6F8 000 C02 034668
E86 D32 JS23U0E******

Sorry no pictures until the weekend.
What do you think fair value would be, I know it would be better to see the pics to answer , but I don’t have any.

with the motor/tranny gone, youll get to do whatever you want as far as a build and you will KNOW what is in there too, and a perfect opportunity/excuse to change it over to a 4 or 5 speed manual while you are at it.

depending on how fast you want to get the car up and running and how much of an impact these gas prices are making on you....

around PHX you can get a vintage low-medium mileage "running" 383 from the Auto Recyclers complete from intake to pan and including all the Acces brackets for under 400$ last I checked.    I imagine Tucson probably has a similar deal or two available,  440's are a little more effort to find.

Might look at getting that A/C running too.

70 Challenger SE  (440 SIX PACK / Keisler 5 speed, R/T SE replication)       68 Sport Satellite Convertible 383 Super Commando / 727  Survivor

2002 Trans AM WS6 convertible:  DD
1999 4Runner 4x4:  lifted-locked-armored  expedition vehicle
1990 Jeep XJ 4x4:  Front Dana 60, GM-14bolt rear, 3 link, 4link, 5.38 detroits, beadlocked 40's, stretched to 110" wb  Rock Crawler
