See if you think this will work
« on: May 12, 2008 - 07:38:32 PM »
I am going to order my wheels tomorrow but wanted to get all of your opions first. I am going with the Fikse Mach V wheels (see pic below) and after I did some measuring this is what the guys at Fikse recommend but I want to make sure they fit. I am running an alterkation frontend and 4 link muscle bar rear with stock wheel wells

Front 8 x 18   BS 5 3/8   FS  3 3/8  Tire Nitto 555 245/45/18
Rear 10 x 18   BS 5 3/8   FS 5 3/8   Tire Nitto 555 295/45/18

Anyone see any problems with that fitting?

Dont see why it wont, im running that rear tire with stock rear leaf spring location (though i have a 9" rim), and running a 255/45/17 up front so a little wider.
I am running 4 1/2" backspacing up front, i would think that maybe with that front end you could get something like the 275's some of the guys on this board are running with stock front ends?

Thanks Goody
I think that 245 or 255 is a wide as I would want to go up front. What did you use for backspace on the rear? I know these will likely work but it still makes me nervous because they cost a ton and if they don't fit you have very expensive door stops.

I really don't see how 5 3/8" back-spacing will work without modifications.  :clueless:

He has a four link, so no leaf spring interference. Only the wheel wells are stock, no tubs.

So Goody if my math is correct your true rear backspace is about 5 3/8 with a stock setup? 5.9 - 7/16 = ~5 3/8

Sounds right, however running the 10" wide you may want a hair more bs since you dont have leaves to worry about. 5.5"?

The more I think about it I will need to run more backspace as the frontspace will be too tight. I have 7.5" front the face of the rotor to the 4 link bar so 6 or 6.25 backspace should work correct?  My measurment for the front space was 5.75" from the front of the rotor face to the inside of the wheel well lip.

The more questions I ask the more confused I seem to get :clueless: When I spoke to the guys on the phone from Fikse they told me that the Mach V could be 6 3/8 BS with 4 3/8 FS or the next size would be 5 7/8 BS and 4 7/8 FS. One thing that has me a little puzzled is that the back space and front space add together to equal 10 3/4. Is that normal for a 10" wheel  :dunno: I always thought the BS and FS would add together to equal 10. I can't believe how hard this seems to be  :banghead:

Sorry can't help on the front spacing. I never even had those figures when i purchased my wheels, i went strickly off backspacing.

However, remember, you can always take away backspacing (spacers), you can't add it. So if you spend the $$ on too little backspacing, you own 'em. Which is why i went a little more and just spaced them off some. I'd think 6 3/8 may be a little deeper than you'd like, my 5.9 just barely started touching my leaf spring, spaced 7/16" i still have plenty of 1/4 panel clearance.

So here is the latest. I spoke with the owner, Jim Fikse, and he was very helpful. He seems to think I can get a 10.5 inch wheel in there with 6 3/8 backspace. I am not so sure but what was even better is that he is going to fedex me a wheel so that I can test fit it this weekend. How is that for service   I have also been thinking more about the tire size and think that I will go with KDZ2 295/35/18 on the rear and 255/40/18 on the front. I like the look of Goodys dads car and mine has airbags as well. That will make a 26" tire front and rear. I will keep you posted

Thats awesome he is sending you a wheel! As far as the short tire, i do like my meat/height, but to each their own!! 26" would kill me with 3.91s   :faint: Next time we have a pair of wheels off either car i think we're going to try my wheels on his challenger just for kicks
 :icon16:

Here is Dad's car, have you had a chance to put some miles on the air bags? Do you have air-ride?

it does look right when you drop it down

 :grinyes:

and my front tires are 26.1" tall if it helps at all with the visualization
