Thinking about a web project.
« on: May 14, 2008 - 01:19:53 PM »
I would like to put together a webpage with a picture of every color Challenger offered (70-74).

Here are a few of my thought on it:

1) I think it would be tough to get all the colors for each year.
2) Since 1973-74 cars are visually identical any colors common to both years would be combined.
3) I may need to include Cudas to get a broader representation of colors.
4) I may not be able to get large, quality pics even if I can find a picture of a color. I don't want to have any crappy small pics if I can help it.
5) I will have to rely on websites like here for some of the shots.

What do you guys think? Can I get them all?

Sure you can.  Just get Hemi Ken to send you his photo library!  That dude (sorry, 'bloke') has a photo of almost every combo ever made!    :2thumbs:

Seriously, it sounds like a good project.  Go for it!

This sounds like a great idea!  Why dont you just do 70 - 74 e bodies?  Also I would sugest addind the diferent types of stripes and the colors offered ect.

Then you get into way too many variables if you want to show different colors with different stripes. I just remembered that Barry already has something like that on Hamtramck-Historical.

Thanks!

Here's another hurdle I came across. I came across a nice picture of what I believe is a Frosty Green 1974 Challenger Rallye. Of course they removed the rubber baby buggy bumpers. Ideally, I'd like the cars to be correct though I guess I'd allow for a set of aftermarket wheels. But added items like R/T stripes, etc. I would avoid.

If the point of the site is show off stock colors, then when a car is not "correct", you could add a caption detailing what about the car is incorrect.  For example, "1974 XX# (color-code) Frosty Green Challenger Rallye, aftermarket wheels, and added 1971 R/T stripe."  That way, people can at least see what the car looks like if they're re-painting the car or considering a color change or just for historical purposes, but with the understanding that the combo they're looking at wouldn't have been available at the time and shouldn't be used as a model for stock restoration purposes.

I think it would be nice as a rough guide to help people choose colors to investigate. Unfortunately, with all the variation in lighting when the original photos are taken, and then the lack of real calibration on 99%+ of the monitors in use today, it couldn't be used as a real reference. Different pictures are going to look different themselves, and then they'll look different on different monitors.
