440 Running like garbage

Well, the 71' is back on the street sporting a new aluminum cross-flow radiator, electric fan, and even a Keisler 5-spd. The problem now is at higher RPM's it spits and doesn't want to rev. And kind of funny but, tonight my dad blew up one of the mufflers! Completely destroyed it, blew open like a party popper. To much raw gas in the exhaust i guess
It's only recently started doing it, and we've tried monkeying with the timing and the vacuum advance but nothing seems to make a difference. Any ideas?

I think I'm going to pull a plug out today or tomorrow and just take a gander at whats going on inside.

could be
jets , leaking power valve or gasket , float level , or just normal if you have a long duration cam
