Got Attacked at Work on Friday
« on: May 18, 2008 - 02:04:44 PM »
At my kennel I do board dogs that some places wont, due to their temperments. If I don't take them they will have to be stuffed into a little cage and be drugged at the vet's office, and that isn't fair fror the dogs at all.  One of my clients is a female police officer and her large Germ. Shep. mix Rudy (not a police dog, her personal dog) is not friendly with anone but her, although in the past, if the owner is with the dog, he behaves and she keeps him under control well. We have her put the dog in the indoor/outdoor run kennel and she goes to get him when she comes home so we don't have to try to handle him. On Friday she came today to pick Rudy up and on her way to the car, I was behind her, ready to go back inside just about to open the door to my reception area. She stopped me to ask a question about booking another stay for him, so I stopped, closed the door and asked her when she was coming back. Next thing I know the dog jumped up and put his paws on my shoulders and was wagging his tail. Before I could even move or think about petting him he started to attack me. He ripped off my scrub top and the shirt I was wearing under the scrub top.  I put my arm up to protect my face as he was biting me and his strength knocked me to the ground. The dog got off of me after a minute of her yelling NO RUDY!!!! So there I am with less than half of a shirt covering me, and pretty badly bitten in what I will refer to as "a lady body part" since most of you here are guys, lol. I have a few punctures, not too deep, but a ton of dark bruising and what looks like broken blood vessels and some swelling. He also got me on the arm that I used to protect my face.  I am so pissed that this woman thought it was OK to have her dog that is known to be vicious jup up on me.  What on Earth was she thinking?  Now that a few days have passed, it looks and hurts so much worse than it did on Friday.  Every little move I make hurts like hell, especially when I am driving.

OMG I'm so sad to hear what happened to you April. I hope you feel better soon. That woman obviously has not trained her dog well.

That lady should have been a lot more vigilant knowing the personality of her dog. It is not so much the dogs fault as hers for allowing it to happen in the first place. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Wow. I dont know what to say, except that I hope you have a speedy recovery. Make sure the dog has had all of his shots.

Now for some sick humor that will hopefully give you a little chuckle...

Yikes, sorry to hear about your day April. Two ways to look at it, 1) you're OK, sore, but you'll live and 2) people in factories probably dream of days where something totally different can happen. Not many of us get attacked during work by a dog lol. Again, glad you're OK and can laugh about it (now). ;D

I hope MEK didn't sick his dog "snookums" on to you.............

:faint: a Police Officer you say !! She should know better than anyone not to let her dog get out of her command...really her dog is not allowed at most places...she should be more careful in her handling...what if it was a small child this buffoon of a dog jumped at

I hope you get compensations from her...I don't mean to sue...but to look after your medical and well being...how traumatic for you

Feel better soon...this is just shocking to read being you are so involved with dogs and care for them so much and to have one go against you...very sad to read

Wow, sorry to hear about this, April.

It's a good thing your covered your face with your arm.

I do hope this lady covers your expenses.

Maybe you need to spend a little time looking down the narrow end of a bottle of Scotch. :grinyes:

Get well soon,

:pullinghair:  That would be one dead dog if it bit someone that was close to me.  I hope you heal up quick. The scars will last forever though. Will it help if I buy you dinner :2thumbs:

:scared: Holy, moly, April!  That must've been pretty traumatic for you!  I hope you are doing better now!  I know I had a few run ins with dogs when I was younger and it still effects me so I can imagine what this might do to you.  I love dogs and had dogs since those scary incidents but I still feel really cautious around big dogs (and any sized cats as a matter of fact!)

Hope you have a speedy recovery!  I hope one bad dog doesn't ruin it for all the dogs.
