Starting Issue

  My 86 D250 truck running a stock 87 360 is messing with me again   In December a new battery was installed. Last April i jumped through hoops trying to pin down what turned out to be a failing coil after replacing the computer (used), distributor cap (new), rotor button (new) and fuel filter (new).
  Last friday the starter went out and i replaced it. Now she starts fine but every third or fourth startup ignition drags to the point where it barely turns over. No clicking - just arrrrruuuh, arrruuuh, arrrru   In between she cranks as soon as I turn the key. I took it to AZ to check the battery and alternator. The battery tested good and the alt was registering 13.82 volts. Any ideas??

how are your cables? good and tight? any 'funky' cable ends anywhere on there.

Negative cable is good and tight, positive cable is an nos item that i've had on hand for a couple of years and was installed when the motor was rebuilt. I made sure all its connections were good and tight after replacing the starter.

Was the starter reman, rebuilt, or new?  Sounds like a bad starter, even though you just replaced it.  It happens more than you would think....

Bingo Ken Today i replaced the starter with a reman hi-torque mini unit. Problem solved

fyi: the positive cable coming from the battery terminates in both a small and medium connector; spend 30 seconds with a needle file wallering it out a bit in order for it to slip onto the matching starter post 

Gratuitous pic of the position necessary in order to tighten the top starter bolt. Even though the negative cable was off the battery, i made sure to ummm....not make contact with the positive post; i've heard tales of possessed Mopars
