Need a price opinion for a friend.
« on: May 20, 2008 - 10:02:58 PM »
A friend of mine is thinking about buying a Challenger. He wants a 340 4-speed car. Year doesnt matter. Would like matching numbers, but not a deal breaker as long as it is a real 340 4-speed car. It needs to be driveable but not restored because he wants to be able to drive it now, and restore it as he gets the money because he doesnt have the money to buy a nice car right now. Hes not really concerned about the condition of the interior, or any of the replaceable sheet metal, but wants something with solid frame rails and floors.

He asked me what he should be able to get one for. I wasnt sure what to tell him, so I said probably in the $7k-$12k range.

Does that sound about right for a driver vehicle?

with as vague as he is about the car, id say thats do-able for price range. basically he wants a 340 4-speed...challenger. thats it. right? driveable, but could be rotting out with hardly an interior. i'd think he could find something...if he's patient and keeps his eyes open maybe something pretty nice

To give you an idea, last year I bought a factory 70 challenger 340 4 speed plum crazy white interior car that had no motor or transmission and most of the interior is gone and the front passenger frame rail has been shoved over almost 8 inches from an accident in 1980 with no front clip other than the drivers fender no radiator support and both inner fenders have to be replaced for $2500. A non numbers running 70 340 4 speed car will run a good 12k, because from what I understand there weren't many of them built. Here is a link to the thread on my car.

He doesnt care about the year, so I was thinking 72 or 73. When I said interior doesnt matter, I meant that he doesnt care if the seats are ripped, dash is cracked, etc. He wants something driveable so that he can get his wife interested in it, (trying to justify it as a fun, family thing), and so that its not just a big unusable lump in his garage for the next couple of years. lol.

If he dont like that one he can always see if that same member has that black 74 440 Challenger that Moparal sold him that was a sweet ride.
