73 Challenger Dash HELP (NEWBIE)

I am new and need some help with my 73 Challenger. I have a Stock (NON-RALLY)dash in the car now. I am switching it out for a similer stock dash in better condition and a clock. My problem is that I was not able to figure out how to remove the original dash properly. The cover hangs up on the speedo and the steering column. What is the trick to removing the panel?

The speedo cable has to be disconnected.  There is a little lever/clip that has to be pressed down (if I remember accurately) before you can pull the cable out.  I think the column has to be unbolted from the bottom of the dash and at the firewall to drop it down enough to get the cluster out (at least it does in my Cuda).

Anyone does care - that looks like a gorgeous car!  Welcome to C-C.com.  You'll find lots of help here - I'm sure the membership here will be able to help solve your problem.  What part of CA are you in - maybe a local member can help you out.

I'd suggest starting a new thread in the Interior section with some photos of what you're trying to do.  You say it's hanging up on the speedo, but I'm assuming you mean the guage cluster.  Are you taking out only the pad?  If so, it's lot easier to do if you at least loosen the steering column at the firewall (four bolts) and lower it down some.  That should make the pad easier to get out.  Same thing with the guage cluster.

   welcome triple green.  You will see that removing the dash is fairly simple. Drop the column down as said , it is easy, also take the panel switch out first along with the dash light bar. I think it's a 3/8th wrench that unhooks the amp gauge, speedo is a no brainer as mentioned, the bulbs for the gauges are color coded wires and marked on the back of your cluster.  Take a mental note as to a certain screw on the switch panel , as it will have a metal tab on that panel for a ground.

I am the second owner. The car was my grandmothers. She kept the car in almost show quality. I will be honest she loved that car more then anyone or anything else. Other then some wiring problems and a need for a new vynel top the car is in wonderful condition. It has been my daily driver for a little over a year now and never given me a wimper of a problem. GREAT CAR!!

I have a NOS Green top I am having installed in the next month or so and I am just trying to wake it up a little within the stock options. (Stock 4brl intake, duel exhaust conversion, exc.) but I want it to look like it rolled off a 1972-3 magazine ad. I have gotten a great deal of joy over people  over the fact that it was so untouched. The car is just to clean to Hot Rod and has been to good a driver to trailer.
